  • Lauren Karpinski on Playfulness in Art and Life

    15/01/2021 Duración: 41min

In this episode, I had a refreshing conversation with Lauren Karpinski, an abstract artist who also practices many healing modalities (massage, acupuncture, reiki, yin yoga), and these things are very integrated for her. Like me, she thinks creativity and wellness are very intertwined, and she shares about how they integrate in her own creative process. We chatted about mindfulness, the value of feeling good, how having fun makes us more productive, working with our natural energy cycles, being flexible in how we engage with creativity, managing anxiety, and letting go of control, among other things. I’m very inspired by Lauren’s playful spirit, her unwillingness to take herself too seriously, and her approach to making art - I hope that hearing from her is also a breath of fresh air for you! ----- If you’re looking for a little creative boost with a very low barrier to entry, I want to remind you about my Feel-Good Creativity Unchallenge - it’s totally free and really fun, with 5 days of bite-size creativity

If you feel like you're not quite ready to start making plans for 2021, because things still seem so uncertain, I see you. We can still make goals, but we might just need a different, more flexible approach that accounts for the inevitability of change. 01/01/2021 Duración: 22min

Choosing a word as the theme for a year can be a great invitation to engage in a more active practice with that word, whether in place of or in tandem with goal setting, and a filter for what feels aligned to do and create. In this episode I share my words from the last several years, how my 2020 word (trust) turned out, and the inspiration behind my new word for 2021. Did you pick a word for 2021, or for previous years? What’s been your experience with it? • Susan Shehata on Unsticking Your Story

    04/12/2020 Duración: 01h07min

In this episode I had a lovely conversation with holistic wellness facilitator and educator, writer, speaker, and performer Susan Shehata. All of these identities intertwine around helping people unstick their story - identifying and unwinding limiting core beliefs that keep them stuck. We hear a lot about limiting beliefs and mindset work on a surface level, but she is so good at making these often esoteric concepts super practical and digestible. After 20 years of building various skill sets, COVID and the instability of 2020 made Susan realize more deeply how all of her roles intertwine, and showed her how she is uniquely equipped to support people through these experiences. Listen in to hear us chat about how people’s core beliefs factor into how they’re dealing with the pandemic, civil unrest, and emotions in 2020, mental health, and staying creative in the face of uncertainty. Susan also shares her self care practices that center around the 4 elements of earth, air, water, and fire - simple, accessible,

  • Feeding Your Creativity in the Winter Season

    27/11/2020 Duración: 14min

We don’t have to expect ourselves to constantly be actively producing creative work - creative projects have seasonal cycles, too. But even in the dormancy of winter (literal or metaphorical), you can still feed your creativity, and this phase is just as important as the others. In this episode I share many ways that you can consume, digest, and “fertilize the soil” to pave the way for your next project. What’s feeding your creativity right now? What’s inspiring you? • Why You Need a Self Care Plan for the Holiday Season

    20/11/2020 Duración: 14min

Unusual times call for unusual amounts of self care - the holidays can be tough in a normal year, but in 2020, there’s extra uncertainty and grief piled on top, so we need self care (actual, replenishing self care, not just clichés or "shoulds") more than ever. I describe some of the conditions that might be making this season more stressful, along with some easy ways to support yourself through it! ---

  • Why You Should Take More Breaks

    13/11/2020 Duración: 18min

It’s easy to get trapped in the idea that productivity means we have to work constantly, and then feeling guilty about breaks and time off, but breaks are essential for replenishing energy and creativity! I’m always pro-break, but during extreme events (like a pandemic) you might need even more breaks than you’re used to. I know, easier said than done, but in this episode you’ll learn what it can look like to integrate more breaks into your work, even in the busiest of schedules, and all of the benefits that come with that. ---
