  • Mama-Made Mercy Masks Made in McLeod

    Nikki McLeod is not only keeping busy with her music, but she is helping her mother and sister in a project called "Mama-Made Mercy Masks".  They have made hundreds of cotton medical masks so far and the orders keep coming. If fact they just received an order for 300 from the the USS Arleigh Burke. The ship carries 300 servicemen. It’s her understanding that this ship escorted/escorts one of the military COVID hospital ships and have no masks on board. Their going to try to get out 600 to them. Nikki also tells us that she's on her 3rd sewing machine, because they have trouble with the constant sewing of this project. The masks cost nothing, they are doing it for free, but are looking for donations of cotton, and "Pellon" a filter that is used in the mask. Cash donations can be made.     What was supposed to have been a CD release party in downtown Fargo will now be a CD release party on line for Jessica Vines  Thursday's (4/2) show will be shown on the Livewire Facebook page and will run from 5 to 9 pm. Her along with Conor Lee (her guitarist and songwriting collaborator) will do some duets, the a full show of the new CD "Moving to Fast", and the the whole gang finishing the show.     After 20 years one of the region's hottest bands of the 80's was been back in the studio and have released a new CD with 9 original tracks. The Newz new CD is titled "Life of Crime" and a release party will be held at the Aquarium in Fargo on June 6th.  Gordon Christensen and Brad Kittleson joined us to talk of the good old days at the Gaslight, Sunset Lounge and the Zodiac in Moorhead. Plus all their travels in the upper midwest. Jon Stan Nyborg is the 3rd member of the band and that's him featured on the CD cover. We also find out the great story behind the "z" in the name! Wet-plate photographer Shane Balkowitsch joined NTL to mention there will be no ceremony at this time. Because of the cancellation of the Fargo Film Festival he hopes the documentary "Balkowitsch" will be screened at a future date at the Fargo Theatre. Shane also mentions the support and the negative actions he's seen since this project was put got the go ahead.

    Roger Corman alumni, Beverly Gray joins Scotch and Bob Harris to talk about Roger Corman, Dick Miller, Slumber Party Massacre 3,  and Ron Howard, among other things. After completing her doctorate in Contemporary American Fiction, Beverly Gray worked for the legendary Roger Corman. At New World Pictures she edited scripts, wrote publicity materials, cast voice actors, and did just a little bit of everything. Later, she spent eight years at Concorde-New Horizon as Corman's story editor and development expert, overseeing the production of well over 150 low-budget movies. Beverly runs the blog Beverly in Movieland and has written books on Ron Howard, The Graduate and an unauthorized biography of Corman titled "Blood Sucking Vampires, Flesh Eating Cockroaches and Driller Killers." She spent over a half hour talking with Scotch and Bob Harris, sharing great stories and revealing insights into the making of some of the great cult classics. Have a listen.     It was on the air a little earlier Thursday night but it was nothing but fun and informative. Dr. Derine Winning was in for the March edition of Nighttime Live's edition of "The Vet Is In". Some of the topics Dr. Winning talked about is the growing concern about coronavirus.  We had a number of great question via phone and texts. Should I brush my dogs teeth or iare"cleaning treats" enough? Should our family get a second dog, a companion for an older one? Why does my dog lick the arms of my easy chair and nothing else? One of my dogs past away and now the other refuses to eat, what do I do? Some owners don't recognize their pets are getting older because of the day to day association. But watch for weight loss, change in coat, mobility problems. Can you use "Essential Oils" around or on my pet? Remember that pets have a keen sense of smell. Could any oils harm them? Tim tells us the Mossbrucker Rodeo Group of ND has produced another great herd of livestock for the event with some very talented cowboys vying for points to head for the big one in Las Vegas.
