We should look back to study the heritage of the Lord in times past. Today it is easy to become presumptuous and approach God and ask for Him to treat us differently than in the past. We want Him to respond according to what we think is right instead of His unchangeable Word. Come listen as we hear of the Patience of God towards us though we are so presumptuous. Yet he stands as a rock, exacting penalty for sin just as we need to stand as a rock in the fear of the Lord.

There was great preparation for the birth of Christ. Mary and Joseph were the perfect parents to raise and nurture the son of God. Not sinless but perfect in their calling. The world was transformed by the coming of Jesus and hasn’t been the same since. Louis Pasture, Isaac Newton and George Washington, are but a few whose lives were transformed by Christ. They learned and we now know that Mindset and encouragement are greatly improved by prayer. The picture of George Washington on his knees in the snow should encourage us to be a people of prayer and thankfulness.

The baptized infant bears the sign of Jesus Christ. One day she will stand before her King and bear witness of that testimony. Commit your works unto the Lord and your thoughts will be established. This young child will see that in her parents as they model Christ and the Church before her daily, calling her unto repentance and faith in Christ.

Today we baptize Anneli, thus calling her unto the Lord as she bears the sign of Christ. She will one day stand alone before her King and Savior and will bear testimony of that calling, but today, her parents, grandparents and church body stand with her. John Knox recognized the genius of God as he connected baptism with the Great Commission. Anneli's parents will call her daily unto repentance and faith in Christ by their walk, their "works" before the Lord.

Remember these words in a television ad from the past ‘You’ve come a long way baby”? This ad, designed to seduce women into smoking a particular brand of cigarette, was the beginning of the increased use of sex to sell a product. It set advertising methods on a slippery slope. Today’s world works hard, almost frenzied, to turn a woman to follow a bloody path that couldn’t possibly be farther from what she needs to be able to thrive and lead a fruitful peaceful life. Rasputin, was not a man of God neither was he a messenger of God. Rasputin was a seducing spirit. He was the reason for the downfall of Russia. Neither the Government or the churches of the day recognize Rasputin for what he was. Everyone proclaimed him of God though he was of the devil. Does the Word of God teach us to recognize these seducing spirits? Yes, by their fruit. We find the same evil fruit of these seducing spirits evident in our nation and throughout the world today. One of the greatest battles in our nation took place in the early 19th century. The battle took place on many fronts, the Spiritist movement (people thinking they were communicating with the dead) and Darwinism were just two battle fronts at which the Church of Jesus Christ found itself. The Church, the Family and Civil Government were all being undermined by these false doctrines. Come learn what the Church of Jesus Christ did to defend itself, the Family and Civil Government. During the Second great awakening in Rochester New York was birthed the Spiritist Movement. The foundation of the Church was attacked on all fronts and in many ways. The preaching of the "doctrines of devils" was commonplace and even carried forth by the missionaries of the day. The damage that was done has carried forth to today. Now what? What good are the Laws of the Lord if they are contained but not upheld in the laws of the land?

Is European Christianity just about dead? How about in our own Nation? Our children as they grow older leave the Church. The reasons are very telling. One would assume that being in Sunday school would be good for anchoring them theologically. Studies show this not to be the case, just the opposite. The Law of the Lord is the immune system His Church. Come listen as we explore what is compromising the body of the Church of Christ. The preaching of the Gospel was the heritage of our nation but now…. Come learn why our nation is now in trouble as the commandments of the Lord are no longer obeyed. The only way for the prayers of nations and of people to be effective is to know the will of God. Are we still seeking to know the will of God through His Word? Why is the Bride of Christ now so confused as to the will of her husband?

In Psalm 72, at the beginning of King David’s last prayer, David uses the word “righteousness” three times. There is no longer a fear of God, it has been replaced by seeking the praises of men. The fear of God has been replaced with the fear of offending men with the truth of the Word of God. Psalm 19:9 “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” God deals differently with those who fear Him and those who do not. For whatever reason, failing to tithe the way God would have us tithe not only robs God but also robs the tither. The issue revolves not only how we give but also how the very blessings God has for us are withheld. Tithing is a matter of showing who is first in one’s life. It is no mystery as to how we are to tithe, it is clearly laid out both in the Old and New Testament. In our personal relationship with our Lord and God, our walk, the question is who is first in that walk? Are we walking according to the will of God as found in His Word or is our walk something else?

Patrick Henry though he lost the vote on the constitution, yet he won. Patrick Henry was a devout Christian man. Though he lost the vote yet he voiced warnings about the flaws and abuses that the Constitution may be prone to in the future. Patrick Henry’s words were often quoted in the courts and the papers of the day. Patrick Henry never did realize the victory he had. The warnings of Patrick Henry had an immeasurable impact on the beginning of our nation. We do indeed have a constitution we can be proud of. Similarly, Christ’s words to the apostles were often misunderstood, but after His death and resurrection, now with understanding, the apostles’ faith became a force for the Gospel and the furthering of the Kingdom of God. Our war for independence was fought because of the restrictions England wished to place upon the Colonies. Those restrictions would have destroyed us as a nation. Those restrictions were deigned to serve man and not God. The same restrictions cost a multitude of British lives as they fought against a massive Zulu attack. Before the soldiers could receive ammunition they had to stand in line and sign out for it with the quartermasters. The soldiers held their peace and did not protest the delay. It cost them their lives! They should not have held their peace. Queen Esther did not hold her peace and saved her nation. The point of today’s sermon is duty. To know when it is our duty to remain silent and when it is our duty to not hold our peace but to speak out. The Word of God instructs us to speak out against evil. Patrick Henry took the Law of the Lord and used it during the ratifying convention for our Constitution. Patrick Henry used the Word of God to warn the men framing the Constitution to create a just righteous document. Patrick Henry pointed out how some of the things they wanted to add to the Constitution would leave the Constitution open to abuse. Today we see how the Constitution is set aside as, at the same time, our Nation sets aside the Law of God. Hear how our Nation is in peril as long as we continue down a path which Ignores or even spews the Law of God. Phil Donahue was an expert and a genius in turning phrases and twisting words. He excelled in using his talent to forward liberal doctrine and beliefs. He not only attacked the Christian faith but also freedom and sound economics. Rush Limbaugh has a clip that he aired where Milton Freedman and Phil Donahue spoke on the topic, socialism verses capitalism. Mr. Limbaugh uses this interchange to exhibit to his listeners the depths of the liberal mindset. Economics is no small thing with our Lord. Hear what the bible has to say about how and what our Lord would have us invest in and how He invests in us. This topic requires our close scrutiny, especially since so much about our walk is described in investment and economic terms. How we deal with this has a profound effect on not only ourselves but our family, our neighbor and the world.

Good works, are they always for good or might they be used for evil? Hear how Andrew Carnegie, who did many good works, is an example of just this situation. Then comes men whose good works are to exhibit Christ and further the kingdom of God. Richard Wurmbrand is a fine example of good works for the right reason. Though God put Richard Wurmbrand on the cutting edge of affliction yet he did not give up. Even though good works add nothing to Christ's sacrifice for our sin, yet we are responsible to do them.
