Homelessness NSW has backed urgent calls for a coronial inquest into the death of Bikram Lama. Lama, who came to Australia from Nepal, was reportedly found near St James Station in Hyde Park in Sydney last December, where he had been rough sleeping. Prabin Shrestha, who began his journey at family-run company as a part-time cleaner, has recently been appointed the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). After spending nearly three decades with the SKG Services, now valued at around $250 million, Shrestha has risen from an ordinary worker to leading more than 2,000 employees. Felicity Volk served as the Australian Ambassador to Nepal from 2021 to 2024 and is now involved with the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF), an organisation dedicated to charitable work in the Himalayas. Australia continues to be a major destination for students from Nepal, the Indian subcontinent, and around the world, bringing both opportunities and challenges associated with international student life. One organisation supporting students from diverse backgrounds is The Break, where Melbourne-based Bachelor of Social Work student Sristina Ghimire is currently undertaking her placement. As part of her role, she provides counselling and other support services to others. Ghimire says it was a new experience for her to undergo mandatory counselling herself before beginning the placement.
