  • PP#72: Naomi Davis – Cycling across the USA the trash free vegan way

    15/02/2016 Duración: 01h12min

I never thought I would meet a fellow yogi, organic gardener, millennial who also biked across the United States...but I did! As a recent graduate from NYU with a degree in both dance and animals studies, Naomi wanted to take an adventure that would allow her to inspire people while also learning about the world, people and how to make a difference towards healing our planet. Naomi built a small team of fellow vegan friends to cycle coast to coast across the US as low-waste vegans. They documented their journey day by day on their blog 'TrashFreeWay' where you can find pictures and journal entries of their entire journey from start to finish. Naomi is a passionate vegan activist who is currently living in Berkeley California and working on a local farm called Urban Adamah which provides free fresh food to those in need around the Berkeley community. • PP#71: Peter Breslow – Reporting for NPR from Mt. Everest to the South Pole

    08/02/2016 Duración: 01h03min

As a podcaster, I couldn't skip the opportunity of taking a radio journalism class from NPR's Weekend Edition senior producer Peter Breslow. Peter took a month off from work last year to teach at Colorado College, and back this year for a second time, it looks like his class will become an annual CC tradition. His class was one of the most valuable and entertaining courses I have taken during my college experience. Peter has reported and produced from around the country and the world from Mt. Everest to the South Pole. During his career he has covered military conflicts in a half dozen countries, had his microphone splattered with rattlesnake venom and played hockey underwater. Over the years, Breslow has been honored with three Overseas Press Club awards: 1989 for Homecoming: Return to Vietnam, 1998 for Israel at 50 and 1999 for NPR's Kosovo Coverage. Among his other awards are a share of the 2002 duPont-Columbia Award for NPR's coverage of 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan; and the 2003 duPont-Columbia Awar

  • PP#69: Aaron Stuber & Jackson Long – Thought For Food Podcast hosts discuss the microbiome, vegan parenting and injury prevention

    25/01/2016 Duración: 01h19min

My guests today are two of the most qualified individuals to start cohosting a plant-based nutrition, athletics and sustainability podcast. Their new show is called Thought For Food. Jackson Long is a college student at CU Boulder studying human physiology, he is an elite cyclist/endurance athlete as a vegan, and has recovered from both an eating and exercise disorder in his recent past. Aaron, his good friend and cohost, is a plant-based registered cardiac nurse, also a endurance athlete, and he is a new father to a healthy vegan child. The podcast and social media worlds are saturated with a variety or channels and shows that frequently discuss the same list of topics based on experience and word of mouth. But considering the vast array of information these two guys have on the topics we are all interested in, the Thought For Food podcast has the chance to be a groundbreaking show that discusses evidence based theories and solutions to truly optimizing our health, fitness and environmental footprint. • PP#68 – Masters Of War: A discussion on political philosophy (Bernie, Hilary, and the military industrial complex)

    18/01/2016

I believe the vegan movement is largely too apolitical and under informed regarding political issues. We talk about recipes, animal rights, health science, but not enough about political philosophy. In this episode I discuss with my brother, a self identifying democratic libertarian anarchist, the history of the military industrial complex, the war on terror in the United States, the current US presidential election campaigns, and much more. • PP#67 – The Pros and Cons of New Years Resolutions

    11/01/2016

Setting new years resolutions is not for everyone. For some it can be a path towards a very positive and successful year while others can turn a failed resolution into an excuse for feeling sorry for themselves. The pros and cons of goal setting are complex. On one hand trying to plan and create expectations and goals can take you out of the present moment of feeling grateful for the simple things you already have, while on the other hand resolutions like practicing meditation can be the tool that allows you to be more present and grateful. My tips for setting new years resolutions, if you choose to do so, are to keep them short and focused, don't take them so seriously because slipping up once in a while is inevitable, and most important balance you self oriented goals like body, business or relationship goals with service oriented goals like being less judgmental and helping those in need more often. • PP#66: Erik Lamkin – Anorexia to competitive eating

    04/01/2016

I will be the first to admit that people, myself included, take food too seriously sometimes. While food is a powerful tool that should be understood and appreciated, putting food on too grand a pedestal can lead a certain type of person down an unhealthy and dangerous path. Erik Lamkin is an individual that used food to take control over his body image issues. Growing up overweight and uncomfortable motivated him to learn about weight loss nutrition and change the state of his body. On the journey towards finding a health weight, Erik went too far developing a disorder that pushed him to get skinnier and skinnier, eventually landing Erik in a 60 day rehabilitation center during his college years where he worked in a community with professionals to develop a healthier relationship with food. Since overcoming the brunt of his condition, Erik has been able to blossom into an elite cyclist, positive motivator for young adults dealing with anorexia, and has also blown the minds of hundreds of thousands of peopl

Art is in everyone. Those who say they are "not artistic" have not found their artistic expression...or maybe they have and just don't see their expression as an art. Art can be painting, drawing or creating sculpture, but cleaning the house, singing in the shower or taking intentional measures to grow the biggest most nutrition summer tomato can be your artistic expression too. • PP#59: Tim Van Orden – Change your heart, change your life, change the planet

    16/11/2015 Duración: 01h35min

"Change your heart, change your life, change the planet." The "health" and "vegan" movements together focus too narrowly on diet alone as the one stop habit change to propel you towards optimal health. In reality, health is a much more comprehensive path in which diet plays a key role but still serves as a fraction of the entire process. Even though Tim has¡ been an advocate of a high-fruit, raw foods, vegan diet since 2004, he is famously known for going "beyond the kale" and investigating the emotional and psychological aspects of our lives that can bring us towards improved health. Tim is a pioneer at the Woodstock Fruit Festival, where this conversation was recorded, and also works as an online coach, YouTuber, and competitive athlete. Tim was named "U.S. Masters Runner of the Year", four times, and he's garnered ten U.S. Trail Running Championship titles at 10k, 15k, Half, Marathon, and 50k. Animal agriculture is the number one contributor of green house gas emissions, water use, deforestation, and wild life destruction on our planet. Evan Worldwind is a musician, certified Neurolinguistic Design Engineer, sound healer, Tai Chi practitioner, and raw foodist. • PP#53: Dr. Elizabeth Lambaer – Skinny Dipping in the Fountain of Youth

    05/10/2015 Duración: 01h16min

Age is often thought of as a road block to your dreams and highest potential. In our modern society getting older is associated with deterioration, passing your peak, and possibly becoming a victim to a variety of diseases of the mind and body. These associations are not necessarily god given tokens of just getting older, instead they reflect the lack of intention in care our society takes in regards to our food, spiritual practice, relationships and career choices. Dr. Elizabeth chose to not allow age to limit her human experience, and instead crafted a program for finding the fountain of youth. Dr. Elizabeth is a raw vegan advocate, dancer, former dentist, public speaker, author, and a sexy, fit powerful woman! Dr. Elizabeth has been interviewed on TV, radio, websites, and even hosted her own self improvement show called the Dr. Elizabeth Show. From a young age Dr. Elizabeth felt the unseen powerful spiritual energy in the world. Following her heart and spirit led her to age with grace and beauty while main
