Mitcz & His Dad

From there, Dad delves into a theory that in the era of Mad Men, people were happier. Mitcz argues “…yeah, for rich white men” and a discussion about racism, sexism, class warfare, welfare, and rich vs poor ensues. Dad once again wishes Mitcz would stop worrying about such things, as he considers it a futile effort. Mitcz disagrees, and wraps it up with how that all relates to his desire to be a full-time stand-up comedian.

Dad talks about having received and halfway read his new Columbus book, then asks Mitcz how the dating world is going. Mitcz launches into a brief update on how his latest comedy gigs have gone and how it relates to comedy at large before Dad wonders why he went that route after a question about Mitcz’s dating life. From there, a number of subjects arise that focus around comedy, women, and dating.

Dad wants to talk about what he considers the greatest human being who ever lived – Christopher Columbus (which is how Mitcz got his middle name) – and Mitcz asks a few questions, references the controversy of Columbus, and plans are made for a future episode dedicated to the subject. From there, Mitcz & Dad discuss the latest advances in renewable natural energy and move on to web-based technology (Mitcz already knows about it and uses a rival tech) and we finish with a discussion about TV of today and a memory of TV’s earlier days where televised events had higher than 80% of the market at a time.

Dad notices Mitcz has NOT yet returned to the mohawk, before they move on to a brief discussion about Mitcz having had his debit card stolen via cloning. From there, they discuss movies and Dad mentions Ryan O’Neal, leading Mitcz into a story about a secret movie he’s never allowed to show anyone that features Ryan O’Neal. Dad gets curious about technology, which leads Mitcz on a number of geeky tangents that illuminate the situation regarding Apple, Google, Microsoft and more.

Mitcz expresses his desire to go back to his mohawk, at least for a little while, and Dad launches into another lengthy anti-mohawk rant. The conversation moves onto the popularity of the Harry Potter films, then back to hairstyles (and “breakup season”) yet again. From there, Dad discusses books and the number of ridiculous cuts from a bad connection on Dad’s side leads to a discussion on how terrible AT&T is.

In a rare twist, this episode is about the same topic the whole way through. Mitcz and his Dad discuss movies, actors, actresses, why “no nudity policy” actresses are dumb, why Charlie Sheen is overrated, why Mitcz can’t stand Westerns, and so much more.

Dad talks about his recent trip to Mississippi and the nostalgia that ensued when visiting places he used to frequent when he lived there with Mitcz’s mom, then we talk about the Casey Anthony case. Mitcz relates another weird legal case he read about recently, after explaining why the Casey Anthony trial only seems “weird” on the surface. Finally, Mitcz asks Dad a life/philosophy question about jobs, dreams, mediocrity, and explains why being a recurring character on a TV commercial is the worst job in the world.

Mitcz talks about waking up too early twice this morning, leading to Dad talking about early-awakenings in his life and a brief discussion of his sleepwalking problems when Mitcz was a child. After that, Dad discusses his love for stats and his idea for new sports statistics — and becomes one of the few times Mitcz joins in on a sports discussion. After some talk of sports & stats in their childhood, Dad talks about his 2nd viewing of Inception. From there, it leads into a discussion of movies in general, Mitcz’s disdain for Jon Travolta, and eventually Dad questioning the hotness of certain actresses, which Mitcz vehemently disagrees with.

Finally an episode without Skype issues! In this episode, Dad comments yet again on Mitcz’s hair, then he takes shots at Boston (and their lifestyle), which leads to a discussion about Harvard and higher education. Mitcz and Dad disagree about the importance of college in our current society, and there’s some life lessons (about fulfilling one’s dreams) to choose from at the end.

Another belated post on account of having to splice to fix Skype issues – so, again, the title gives a good overview.

We had some Skype issues, and it took me awhile to splice it all together. I don’t remember it well enough to describe this episode, but the title gives a good overview.

Warning : Mitcz cries during this episode, and you might also. Dad starts out discussing disappointment with people around him, and talks about a relative he’s particularly proud of, which leads Mitcz to discuss his own issues with his Dad seeming hard to please. Dad then reads an obituary Mitcz wrote for his grandfather (Dad’s dad), that Mitcz didn’t remember writing, and it’s an emotional moment (even Dad chokes up a few times). Afterwards, the conversation moves onto Dad’s hopes for Mitcz as an actor and/or comedian, and a discussion of the art of acting. The last part of the podcast becomes a discussion of Political Correctness and Mitcz calls Dad a racist.

Dad starts off with a discussion about a new energy-related regulation being tossed around and wonders “Who Are These People?”, and there’s a brief discussion of government, corporations and hippies. Dad mentions some stock tips and gives a few basics on how to pick them, then asks Mitcz to tell him a detailed account of his last date, leading to Mitcz explaining the phenomenon of “Breakup Season”.

This week’s episode starts with Mitcz explaining why comedians are, by nature, self-loathing and/or outside the mainstream. That leads into Dad talking about how he became who he is, based on his childhood and Mitcz doing much the same. A political conversation ensues, where Mitcz gets frustrated for being painted into a corner, and it ends much where it began – Mitcz and self-loathing.

Naturally, we begin by discussing the big news about Obama’s successful orders to assassinate Bin Laden, Dad talks about what Obama should say in his next speech, and we move on to discussions of the Royal Wedding. Finally, we wrap up with a few stories from our relatives that have a sense of spookiness to them.

A somewhat serious episode this time around – we start off with brief discussion of Easter, and of course a brief religious conversation follows, then Dad rants about cellphones while Mitcz tries to defend the utility of text messages. Finally, Dad asks about Mitcz’s 5-year plan and his hope for Mitcz in his crazy Hollywood life.

Mitcz asks Dad about a tricky article on stock markets, which moves into a brief discussion of our economy. After that is a discussion on solar energy and how it will be used to power 500K homes that are planned for Abu Dhabi, and why Mitcz fears construction projects out there. Dad talks about how he “proposed” to Mitcz’s mom, and of course… there’s a Sopranos discussion.

Mitcz and Dad talk about the newest member of their family (hello Greyson!), have a discussion about goals, moviestars, a general disdain for “behind the scenes” and the cult-worship of Hollywood icons, and then move on to stories about the modern dating scene.

Mitcz shaved the hawk, Dad talks about a pizza shop that stole our name, there’s much family talk, Dad gets philosophical about a quote from his favorite book “Moby Dick”, and there’s more Sopranos discussion.

Dad discusses some of his favorite food restaurants and recipes, and a discussion of New Orleans and America’s lost cities ensues.
