Let's Talk Dementia

We continue our discussion on having a successful Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday with our loved one with dementia. I hope these two episodes are meaningful for you. And... Happy Thanksgiving - Merry Christmas - Happy New Years Day - and Happy whatever day you celebrate!

Making plans for a successful turkey day means more than the turkey, dressing, and remembering the deviled eggs. It takes planning for the needs of your loved one with dementia. We talk about that on today's episode and tomorrow's episode.    

There are a few medications on the market that give us hope for our loved one's with Alzheimer's. As time goes by, we are learning these meds do little, or nothing, to help our folks. This is sad news, but the good news is we can help them AND US by how we take care of ourselves!

I hope that made you giggle! If you think you are safe from getting Alzheimer's, you might want to rethink that idea. The things we are doing to our body increases our risk of Alzheimer's. I hope to bring good news about ways to decrease those odds, but we need to be aware of the facts.  

I have decided to become pro-active in MY LIFE (and my husband's life - lucky dude!) in kicking some Alzheimer's butt! That means dietary changes, lifestyle changes, more sleep, less stress, and NO ALZHEIMER'S. Ready to join me?

If you've ever watched "American Pickers," you've heard someone say that!   When someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, their disease actually started 30-40 years BEFORE their symptoms! I'm guessing you did not know that! Listen in for more important information.

Inflammation leads to Alzheimer's. The Latin word for inflammation literally means "to set on fire!" That should scare you. Let's talk about inflammation today as we work towards preventing Alzheimer's.

All of us know someone with Alzheimer's.  And remember, there are over 200 types of dementia.  So you may know someone with a different type of dementia.  However, Alzheimer's among the Latino and Hispanic communities is out of control.  Why is this?
