Invasion Of The Podcast!

This week we talk about mask breath, Spirit stores, The Boys being back, The Mandolorian Season 2 trailer fills with joy, Steve may live his dream of being a cheeseburger taster, a condo full of beer isn't exactly how we imagined it, we talk about sports films and parody films and how they collide in 1998's BASEketball and Steve challenges Paul to a Big Sports Movie Quiz!

This week we talk about drinking and watching marbles, The Walking Dead is coming to an end kind of, Robocop without Robocop, Rick Moranis is still out there and that is great, we discuss the HBO Max documentary Class Action Park and talk about how nostalgia can be a dangerous thing, and then Paul takes Steve to Vacation Bible School.  

This week Paul has to drive long distance and is terrified the whole time, we say goodbye to Chadwick Boseman, theaters are re-opening and we don't know if that is a good idea, a mysterious jet-packed man has been spotted in LA, we talk about Bill & Ted Face the Music and see if this was a most excellent sequel or a totally bogus trip, and Steve plays a game of Higher or Lower with Paul about Bill & Ted memorabilia. 

This week we head back east again for our Year of Animation by looking at the psychological thriller Perfect Blue. Mima is a popstar that wants to become an actress but there are outside (and potential inside) forces at work against her. Bonus: we first learn about Steve's disappointing fair food expedition and Paul's adventures with Cameo. 

This week DC is running into a Crisis on this Earth, Bela Lugosi is Dracula once more, you can rent a Blockbuster and not have to rewind anything at all, we take a look at the 5 part WWE documentary Undertaker: The Last Ride and discuss a legend facing down his last professional days, and we determine what Steve's new in ring wrestling persona will be.  

This week we catch up after having a week off and talk about crime documentaries and falling down in basements, Mulan is releasing on Disney+ but its going to cost you, FanDome is bring the con to you, a man makes a ballsy shoplifting move, we take a look at the Netflix original film The Old Guard and how it stands on its own without having read the source material, and Steve makes Paul guess which older TV shows are getting revived.  

This week we get the best of both worlds as we get to discuss Batman and animation! Our Year of Animation heads to Gotham as we watch 1993's Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. We talk about our familiarity with the Batman animated series and the see if the weekday afternoon version can make the leap successfully to the big screen. 

This week we say goodbye to a Mythbuster, Star Wars is letting loose a Bad Batch, Star Trek Lower Decks has set the bar low, we talk about the influence and work of composer Ennio Morricone and take a look at how his music is a very large part of Sergio Leone's second film in his Dollars Trilogy with 1965's For a Few Dollars More, and Steve tries be frank with his answers for our National Hot Dog Month Quiz. 

This week talk about our quasi-holiday weekends, favorite hot dog toppings, The Far Side is back and sorely needed, Halloween Kills... later, horror fans are dealing with the pandemic better than other, we take a dive into one of the lesser known Marvel heroes, Moon Knight, and talk about the origin of the character, what makes him different, and what we would hope to see with him in the future, and Steve challenges Paul to a National Video Games Day quiz. 

This week we talk about cream cheese, Beavis and Butthead ride again, a click bait story about Star Wars, a really smart person petting a snow leopard, we head to space to talk about Jason X, the 10th Friday the 13th film and what can happen to a franchise when it is trying to find new directions to hack and slash in, and we play a game about actual film sequels that didn't get made. 

This week we continue our Year of Animation by digging to the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli with 2005's Howl's Moving Castle. It has wizards that might be birds, demons with top hats, a turnip headed scarecrow, and Billy Crystal as a sassy fire. You know, the usual.  Bonus: We do actually have some news we get into because a bunch of Batman related things happened and it wouldn't be Invasion without some Batman talk.  

This week we share our adventures at the drive in, experiments in drunken cooking, and watching webinars for fun. We talk about the passing of an important Batman creator, Alien 5 might be alive, and that the Mothman needs to be seen by everyone. We revisit 2014's It Follows and see if our feelings have changed about it over six years while looking out the windows for creeper old ladies slowly walking towards us. And Steve has a quiz for Paul about one of his favorite things: garbage.  

This week we devote the entire episode to telling the true life story of how the Superman radio show took on the Ku Klux Klan and won and we talk about the newly released DC Comics graphic novel Superman Smashes The Klan. 

This week we continue our journey through the Year of Animation by looking at Brad Bird's first feature film, 1999's The Iron Giant. Set in the year 1957 and in the shadow of Sputnik, a young boy happens across a giant robot from another world that can't remember why it is here. We are joined on this episode with special guest El Goro of the Talk Without Rhythm Podcast, a friendly giant that also will eat the occasional car, to explore this wonderful gem of a film that has a lot more going for it than at first glace. 

This week we learn about time traveling fathers, exploding tables, and distant dogs barking, we actually have news to talk about with HBO Max set to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the Simpsons are going to look correct again, and we say good bye to a behind scenes person who helped make Star Wars as big as it is now, and speaking of that Star War, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back and discuss why it is our favorite of the series and what its legacy is, and Paul challenges Steve to a quiz about body parts. 

This week we catch up over our three week break, The Mandalorian is getting a lot of Star Wars shoved into it, Steve is the true hero we need at this time as he solves the mysteries of long lost deli sandwiches, we take a look at Sam Raimi's first comic book/superhero film with 1990's Darkman and we see how well a movie about skin masks that disintegrate holds up, and Steve gives Paul a quiz to see what Sam Raimi film he truly is.  

This week we talk about our weekend watches, a prophecy about Community may come to pass, Saturday Night Live not being so live, and continue our journey through the Year of Animation as we look at 1986's Transformers: The Movie. Does what could have been a simple cash grab feature length toy commercial transform into something more meaningful and fun? Does it hold up over 30 years later? Do we want all the robots shown in it? 

This week we talk a long time about not much going on, The Purge has started in the south, we celebrate the 30th (plus one week) anniversary of the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and talk about whether or not the jokes and suits hold up, and Steve serves up some fresh slices of pop culture pizza questions for Paul. Stick around till the end to hear one of the worst songs we have even ended the show on. 

This week we struggle to find any new news as most of the entertainment world has been shut down or put on hold, googly eyes make everything better, we talk about the first season of Star Trek: Picard and about how there is a lot to like with it but also a lot to be frustrated by (with full spoilers, be warned) and in celebration of 'National Take a Walk Day', Paul challenges Steve to a quiz about walks. 

This week we talk about how we are dealing with self isolation, the best places to find the white gold known as toilet paper, Tiger King is a crazy documentary, and we continue our Year of Animation as we stay in 1982 and talk about another darker fantasy film, The Last Unicorn.
