Land & Legacy - Finding the Good in Hot, Dry Weather
21/07/2020 Duración: 49minHow's the weather in your part of the world? It's the middle of the summer so most of us are experiencing the severity of summer heat. If the summer rains have missed you, you're probably looking at a drought. As a deer manager we've likely been told to hate droughts and that "wet weather means bigger, healthier deer." Although that statement may have some truth, the natural world doesn't revolve around just deer. Finding the positive in the situation can not only help you appreciate the current situation but it can also help you understand how changing weather patterns can help certain plants and animals. One of the biggest topics covered in this podcast is the benefit of a dry nesting season for ground nesting birds like quail and turkeys. While a deer hunter may hate the heat, a quail manager will be relieved without the worry of flooding. Finally, during a drought you can monitor food plot species and native species and observe which species thrives in the heat and which fails. WIth acres and acres of c

Land & Legacy - What is Our Land Actually Telling Us?
14/07/2020 Duración: 01h24minOur land, public or private is showing clear signs of warning. In many places the land is degraded and in need of assistance. How do we know this? Well, the clues are everywhere, we just need to be looking and observing to see these clear indicators. The health of our landscape is greater than chasing a mature whitetail or gobbling turkeys in the spring. Stress on the landscape has revealed itself in many different ways, it's our job to bring this to light so that we can address the issues. Things such as invasive species infestations, soil erosion issues, poor soil health, unhealthy forests, degrading populations or isolating populations due to poor habitat conditions. All of these are signs that something is out of whack or unbalanced in nature. This podcast is not meant to bring a bummer to your day, but simply enlighten you to beware of the fact, we have work to do. The world is not coming to an end, but we have areas across the landscape that need help! Enjoy.Learn.Share! #ForLoveoftheLand Land & Leg

Land & legacy - The Things I Wish Were True
14/07/2020 Duración: 48minThis podcast is one for the ages! We take a light hearted approach this week to land management information. Disclaimer, these "research" points are just fun jokes to show the importance of diversifying the landscape is. These are not true, but humorous to imagine if they were true, just how much valuable work would get done. From the title of the podcast, you can tell that the topics in this podcast aren't actually true. Things such as, "Had you heard, that midges that carry EHD require eastern red cedar for egg laying purposes?" Obviously, this isn't true, however imagine if it was for a moment. The vast monocultures of eastern red cedar that decrease water intake, biodiversity, and much more would be addressed. This is just one example of many that we wish were true. Take this podcast light heartedly! We hope you enjoy it as it will bring humor to your day. Let's get out there and work the landscape, run a chainsaw, target invasives, and remove some nonative cool-sesaon grasses! Enjoy.Learn.Share! #ForLo

N.F.C. - Michigan Ain't So Bad
13/07/2020 Duración: 53minWhen you ask the average hunter what they think about when someone asks them what it's like to hunt in Michigan, the normal response would be something along the lines of "small deer and high pressure". In this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles Podcast, Dan is joined by Trevor Koon to talk about how the hunting in Michigan is not as bad as everyone says. One of the reasons Trevor thinks that his slice of heaven in northern Michigan is so good, is because of implemented antler point restrictions. Southern Ground Hunting - Hunting Mature Bucks In The Florida Everglades | Local Legends | Ryan Carter
10/07/2020 Duración: 01h20minWe talk to some interesting people throughout this podcast, especially during the Local Legends series. That being said, in this episode we're talking about something we have never covered before, and that you've likely not heard talked about much in the past. That's hunting mature bucks in the South Florida Everglades. Ryan Carter is this week's legend, and for good reason. You've heard us say that hardcore public land hunters in Florida are among some of the best deer hunters in the US. That definitely holds true still, but to take it a step further... the freaking EVERGLADES? Ryan tells us some of the differences in hunting his region, some of which will surprise you. The Local Legends series is made to highlight average deer hunters with above average success, and Ryan is no exception to that. DIY Sportsman - Identifying Pinch Points
09/07/2020 Duración: 37minToday's podcast focuses on identifying pinch points. They are certainly more sought after in hunting strategies revolving around the rut, but pinch points can also provide value in locating deer movement from bedding to feeding. Pinch points or funnels can take one of several major forms: Terrain, Vegetation, Water, and man made pinch points. During the podcast, I talk about specific examples of pinch points for each of those categories, how deer might use them, and also how to find them through either topo maps, aerial imagery, or boots-on-the-ground scouting. Missouri Woods & Water - Archery Set Ups
07/07/2020 Duración: 01h30minToday, the guys have on Frank Aiuppa to talk about archery set ups. Frank is an experienced archer and hunter who ran a pro shop for years before a recent career change.
