  • Huntavore - From Summer Prep to When The Work REALLY Begins

    05/08/2020 Duración: 01h42min

The boys are back together!  Co-host Dustin, and Public Land Warrior, Brock join Nick for a summer catch up.  They talk about archery set up and summer projects getting ready for the fast upcoming Whitetail season in Michigan.  Nick is sticking with his setup from last year that proved to be very effective.  “If it ain't broke, don’t fix it”.  Brock added a new sight to the mix as he and Dustin are headed to South Dakota in early October.  Which has made Dustin get a new vertical bow for the trip.  When asked about the Crossbow, he was adamant about it being used here in Michigan. Attention turns to walkthrough of what they are going to do after the shot.  So much attention is given to the practice, scouting, and hunting prep (which it should), but here at the Huntavore we wanted to make sure folks were thinking about when the work really begins.  Each hunter provides a bit of  their own unique situation, and their personal approach to: field dressing, hanging and aging, Butchering and Processor relations, CW

    04/08/2020 Duración: 01h03min

On this week's episode, Nate, Micah, and our guest host Russell Ryun make a trip down to Nixa, MO and sit down with Black Widow Bows to talk about traditional bows.  Toby and Myles Essick break down how people who might be interested in traditional archery should look into it.  We discuss topics like a good average draw weight, the differences between longbows and recurves, a one piece versus a takedown, different aiming techniques, and effective ranges.   Black Widow also has a cool demo program that Toby explains to the listener that is a great option for someone that knows they want to get into traditional bows.  We also get into the different models Black Widow has and the differences between them. We'd like to thank Toby and Myles Essick for spending time with us and our buddy Russell Ryun for making his guest hosting debut on a really fun episode!   Show Links: Black Widow Bows Website -   https://www.blackwidowbows.com/ Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/BlackWidowBows Instagram Page - https://ww

  • Land & Legacy - The Foundational Element of Landscape Architecture

    04/08/2020 Duración: 01h05min

During this week's podcast, Matt and Frank discuss one of the largest and overlooked  fundamental aspects of land management, location! Your specific region matters. The east is not the west and the north is not the south. Despite bobwhite quail living in all of these regions and despite it being the same animal you are managing for, the management will be different!  The region you live in and manage is likely the second largest factor when it comes to management decisions. The first being, what species you will be managing for, but second is your location in that species range. Social media has connected people and brought to light some good and bad techniques over the years. However, the connection of people has often led to many practices being mis-used. Things that work in the north for deer, many not work or be even remotely necessary for those in the south. It is imperative to know your location, soils, rainfall, temperature, growing degree days, first and last frost dates.  We encourage you to downloa

  • Land & Legacy - Step by Step Fall Food Plot Planting Guide

    04/08/2020 Duración: 01h01min

Are you ready for fall like we are? Ready or not here it comes. During this week's podcast we discuss how fall food plots actually work. We start at the basis with the understanding of how seeds germinate. Germination of seeds starts when adequate moisture is available, yet, most food plots start off with a practice of removing all the soil moisture, like discing.  In addition, after discussing how to get the most out of your food plot planting, we dive into soil improvement techniques. The phrase "I'm building soil" is often misused and misunderstood. So we discuss in detail the 5 principles of building soil health. These principles should not be confused or deviated from as they simply work with mother nature. Building soil does not happen overnight, the process is complex and the solution will be as well. Monocultures are not the solution. Be sure to hear us out on this topic. It's a hot button item, but simply science should be applied to understand how the soil should be improved. • Southern Ground Hunting - Stand Placement, Funnels, Big Rubs & Mock Scrapes | Local Legends | Bobby Worthington

    31/07/2020 Duración: 01h25min

It has been a long week for some of us, just waiting for part 2 of our conversation with Bobby Worthington. In part 1, Bobby shared with us the three things that he believes are the most important to killing a mature buck: 1) Hunt him during the rut. 2) Finding the perfect tree. 3) Persistence. He went into depth about how to effectively hunt your target buck during the rut.  This week we're diving deep into number two, Stand placement. Bobby shares with us his strategy of finding and hunting funnels during the rut, but not just any funnel. We'll talk in depth about the sign that he is looking for surrounding each funnel, and why he chooses that specific spot out of all others. Bobby also talks in depth about the types of rubs and scrapes he's looking for, and even how, why, and where he's going to most likely put a mock scrape in his shooting window. Just when you thought he couldn't get any better, sure enough, he does it again. Thanks for listening!    Southern Ground Hunting is powered by Simple Cast. Lea

This week on the show we discuss The Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act (more commonly known as the Pittman-Robertson act).  Due to some of the grocery store shortages recently, there might be people deciding to get into hunting or people getting back into hunting.  Because of that, we thought it would be a good time to dive into the details of the Pittman-Robertson Act.  We discuss the history of the act and how and why it was originated.  We also discuss exactly what products are taxed as a result, how the money is distributed, and how the money is allowed to be spent.   Ohio Huntsman is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices. • Land & Legacy - How We Are Implementing Wildlife Cooperatives

    28/07/2020 Duración: 01h12min

We would be hypocritical if we didn't implement cooperatives in our region. These cooperatives are wide ranging in the structure, some will be very organized while others will be fresh and new. However, the important thing is they will be started and communication can begin between landowners.  This week we have two interviews during the podcast, one with Matt Dye and Seth Harker who was before his time and started working with neighbors to improve the overall neighborhood he leased ground in. Although not all jumped on board right out of the gate, his region is now seeing some incredible results, routinely harvesting multiple 150" class whitetails yearly and countless turkeys. In comparison, Adam and Chad discuss how they plan to begin a cooperative around the Prairie Hollow property. At this time the neighborhood is full of hunters, but very little communication between the groups. In time, with open dialogue, this too will be a region to watch wildlife and habitat be improved.  This week is full of wildlif

  • Land & Legacy - Introducing the National Wildlife Cooperative

    28/07/2020 Duración: 01h12min

Here it is! Finally the wait is over, after a few years of development, Hunter Pruitt the founder of the National Wildlife Cooperative is ready to release his baby. We are thrilled to be a part of the launch of this project. If you are a landowner or lease ground, turn your ears all the way up, this podcast and organization is for you.  Research strongly supports the need for landowners joining forces to work side by side improving the habitat for a wide array of wildlife species. We are not talking about improving properties, we are talking about improving regions! This is an organization for the benefit of the landowner and wildlife, not itself. This grassroots organization puts the value back on the land and landowner, with a focus not just on one animal, but land and wildlife itself, so we can get on board with that! Have you considered starting a wildlife cooperative in your area? Do you know where to begin? Please take time and visit the National Wildlife Cooperative website. Read the information provid
