  • WCPE Episode 203 - Avengers: Infinity War Review

    04/05/2018 Duración: 01h21min

The guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! are back in action! We're going to snap our fingers, kick names and talk Avengers: Infinity War, the runaway box office success that is breaking record after record. We are going to SPOIL the heck out of this movie. So if you haven't seen this yet - Brent Kincade, looking at you! - do not listen to this show until you have seen the movie! We break down the character journeys, the motivations for the characters, why Thanos might not be a villain, who might come back and who might be gone for good, and so much more. We give our insights into what made this movie work, and even how it could have been better. (Heads up in case things sound a little strange towards the end of this episode! We recorded this Wednesday night, which saw some powerful storms roll through the Kansas City area. Due to a tornado warning with the sirens blaring, we were joined in the WCPE studios by the entire Holloway family and pets. Live podcasting, ain't nothing like it!) In addition to al

  • WCPE Episode 202 - Trying on The Infinity Gauntlet

    27/04/2018 Duración: 01h12min

OK, the Gauntlet has been thrown!  With the release of Avengers: Infinity War in theaters this weekend, the guys at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! thought it would be appropriate to dive into the back issue boxes and re-read the classic mini-series from 1991, The Infinity Gauntlet. So much of what happens in the new Avengers movie gets its start with this story, so this is the perfect time to revisit one of Jim Starlin's epic tales, with a fine assist on art by the likes of George Perez and Ron Lim.  In addition, we have our weekly Pick 3 for next week, sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. It should come as no surprise that John picked a Superman book and Jerry picked the new Avengers book. But you never quite know what Cullen is going to pick. Listen in and find out! Speaking of picks, we also have drawn a name for the Action Comics #1000, signed by Brian Michael Bendis. Thank you to everyone that sent in their entry and their Superman story. Big congrats to fan Jeff Johnson - your comic is in

  • WCPE Episode 201 - Action Comics 1000

    20/04/2018 Duración: 54min

Over the years, comics have seen a lot of change. Characters die, and new characters are created. Heroes become villains, and vice versa. Titles are renumbered, rebooted, and sometimes replaced. But there has been one constant for 80 years. Action Comics, which celebrates the publication of it's 1000th issue this week! This is not your normal monthly release. This is Action Comics #1000! It doesn't get any bigger than this for Superman, DC Comics or comic fandom. With multiple stories from all-star creators, packaged with incredible covers representing all the different eras of the Man of Steel, this issue is a true reason to celebrate.  And we did celebrate! In Kansas City, Jerry joined the super fans at a midnight opening at Clint's Comics. With an entire rack of the main book along with all of the variants, the books were flying off of the shelves left and right. A big thank you to Sharon, Keith, Jennifer and Eric for letting the KC comic community start their Superman celebration as soon as possible.  In

    13/04/2018 Duración: 01h49min

... And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! found themselves united together for an anniversary episode. On that day, WCPE invited friends and family to join us in the virtual studio—to talk about comics that featured the number 200! A big thank you to EVERYONE who stopped by to join in on the fun! Expect lots of hugs from us the next time we see you! We took some time to review our favorite 200th issues (Justice League of America, The Brave and the Bold) to some not very good issues (Avengers, we're tal

  • WCPE Episode 199 - Marvel Two (Reviews) in One (Podcast)

    06/04/2018 Duración: 58min

Who's ready for some comic talk? Then sit back and enjoy the conversation as the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! takes a look at two recent books from Marvel, featuring two very strong yet very different women.  First up is Jessica Jones #18, as writer Brian Michael Bendis (along with artist Michael Gaydos) says so long to one of his greatest contributions to the Marvel Universe. This is a touching one-and-done story that is worth every penny, as the books is filled with words and art and story and emotions.  We follow that up with Mighty Thor #705, which is the penultimate chapter in what appears to be the final story of Jane Foster. Dying of cancer, Jane knows that one more transformation between Thor and her human self will kill her. But the universe needs saving, and there is only one way out. Find out the details in this epic tale from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman.  Now, if we just gave you the comic talk, most of you would be satisfied. But wait, there's more. We've watched the first two episodes of K

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. What interests us and what doesn't? We take a look at the first issue of The Brave and the Bold from Liam Sharp. Best artwork you will see all year! We make some wild speculations about the big Marvel announcement on Thursday, which turned out to be the return of the Fantastic Four. Let's just say one of us got it right! As if this was not enough for one show, John has questions! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. 23/03/2018 Duración: 58min

Cue the John Williams fanfare, because things are about to get SUPER in the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! studios this week. With the debut of the new Krypton series on SyFy this week, it gives the guys a good chance to review some of our favorite Superman stories. Did your favorites make our list? Listen in and find out! But before we can find a phone booth to change into our costumes, we spend some time chatting about the success of the Black Panther box office. Five weeks at number 1, and we don't think that Pacific Rim Uprising is going to slow it down any. With the upcoming releases of Avengers Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, there will be a lot of weeks with the Marvel logo sitting in the top spot in Hollywood.  Of course, we will be making our three picks for next week, which is sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. John also shares his deep dive into the adventures of the Captain Mar-Vell from Marvel Comics. The stories range from traditional sci-fi to superhero slugfests

  • WCPE Episode 196 - Interview with Christopher Sebela

    16/03/2018 Duración: 01h12min

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, soon to be known as Cullen, Jerry, and John are Getting Old, we have for you: Cullen's interview with writer Christopher Sebela. Chris announced a few new projects at the Image Expo last month, so Cullen sat down with the Portland writer for a quick one-on-one. Be on the lookout this June for Shanghai Red, telling the brutal trip of a woman from Shanghai to Portland in the nineteenth century, and the revenge she dishes out along the way.  Jerry and John give their take on The Terrifics #1 from DC Comics. Now don't go confusing this title with the Fantastic Four or even The Incredibles. This is a great debut issue, and we are excited to see where this title heads in the issues ahead. John had a chance to read The New Mutants: Dead Souls #1 from Marvel Comics. With the upcoming New Mutants movie hitting theaters later this year, it's only natural for Marvel to get some new product on the shelves ahead of time. John gives us his take on this new line-u

  • WCPE Episode 195 - Fresh Look at Marvel's Fresh Start

    09/03/2018 Duración: 01h18min

Hey everybody! It's time for yet another episode of the award-winning* Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! This week, we our our own fresh takes on Marvel's Fresh Start books coming out beginning in May. Some books are in the must-read list, while others are in the wait until the library gets the collected edition category.  We make our picks for next week, which is sponsored by the good people of Clint's Comics. Do yourself a favor and get down to this store now! We also throw in an extra three picks of books that we find intriguing enough to flip through when we are at the store next week.  Finally, we get into a nerdy debate over a hypothetical JLAvengers 2 crossover. If the two powerhouse teams of DC and Marvel were to meet again, who would you like to see on the creative team. Obviously, the bar has been set high by Kurt Busiek and George Perez, so who could step into those shoes and carry the concept forward? We have our choices. We could tell you here, but we really want you to listen to the podcast. Here's a

  • WCPE Episode 194 - Black Panther and Con Recaps

    02/03/2018 Duración: 01h12min

Sooooo, seen any good movies lately? We are here to sing the praises of Black Panther! This is the new standard for all comic-book movies - a beautiful, well-acted film which left the audience thinking and talking and going back to see it again and again. By our humble estimation, the only thing that could have made this movie better was finding a way to include Nicholas Cage into this soon-to-be masterpiece.  But before we can talk about the movie, we have some con recaps to share with you. We have finally rested up after the epic 2018 Planet Comicon, and have all kinds of stories to share with you. The panels, our friends, and most importantly our work for the Hero Initiative. If you haven't seen our Facebook post, we did some incredible things for this worthwhile cause, so thank you Kansas City! In addition, Cullen attended the Image Comics Expo in Portland last week, followed by the Hillsboro Library Comicfest. At the Image Expo, Cullen played the part of mild-mannered reporter for an upstart podcast, giv

  • WCPE Episode 191 - Interview with Ron Randall

    09/02/2018 Duración: 52min

If you've read any comic books over the last 30 years, odds are you have read a Ron Randall issue or two along the way. From Conqueror of the Barren Earth to Justice League International to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and most recently Future Quest, Ron's pencils and stories have covered every possible genre there is.  But the one book he is most associated with is his own creation, Trekker, which is the ongoing adventures of bounty hunter Mercy St. Clair. Since the late 1980s, Ron has been telling Mercy's story at Dark Horse Comics.  Ron has a new set of Trekker stories to get out, and he has a Kickstarter launching on February 20 to make that happen. The work is done; the Kickstarter is to cover the publishing costs, so you will see the finished product if you support this initiative. Check back in here in two weeks, and we will have a link to the Kickstarter. In the meantime, check out Ron Randall's website to see all of the different projects he's worked on, and where you can sample Trekker before yo

  • Kickstarters We Love! - Ghost Assassin

    01/02/2018 Duración: 31min

We love comics and we love creators who take their visions and dreams and bring them to life outside of the traditional publishing processes. This week we interviewed Adam Watson to talk about his project, Ghost Assassin, and the ongoing Kickstarter campaign. Ghost Assassin is the tale of a hitman-for-hire who has the ability to see and interact with ghosts. Unfortunately for David the ghosts are the people he's murdered. Adam's journey to bring this book to life has taken some wild turns and his marketing and distribution channel plan is just what the comic industry is needing right now. (hint: What are you reading at the tattoo shop while you get inked?) The art for this project is handled by Joel Cotejar and Charles Carvalho with coloring by Edward Bola and Gulliver Silva.  The cover for issue #1 is penciled by Joel Cotejar with coloring by Ceci De La Cruz. Adam will be at I Like Comicon February 10 - 11 with merch and information about the project and the Kickstarter campaign runs through February 21st.

  • WCPE Episode 189 - I Like Comic Con Preview

    26/01/2018 Duración: 01h02min

It's good to be Cullen in February. See, he gets a three week run that month of attending a con each weekend. First up is I Like Comic Con which will be in Vancouver, WA, on February 10 & 11. For it being a first-year show, the guest list reads like a Who's Who of comic royalty. Jim Steranko, Neal Adams, Gail Simone, Ron Randall, Howard Chaykin, James O'Barr and the list keeps going. To get everything set up for the con, Cullen sat down with show owner Chris Simons to get all of the details for the show coming up soon! Of course, we will welcome Cullen back to Kansas City for Planet Comicon February 16-18. Tune back in next week, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel, to get all of the details for Kansas City's biggest convention. And if you pay close attention, you may start seeing some announcements this weekend for Cullen to appear at Comics Fest in Hillsboro, OR, on February 24 & 25. But we still have a show to do this week! In addition to our interview with Chris Simons, we also discuss: Boob Armor! W

  • WCPE Episode 188 - Black Lightning Debut

    19/01/2018 Duración: 01h12min

No time for niceties this week. We've got a lot to cover on today's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! So enough with the jibber jabber, let's write about what you are going to hear us talk about.  John starts out with quick recaps from this week's episodes of Supergirl and The Flash. Bu we really want to talk about the awesomeness that is the CW's new super-hero hit, Black Lightning. You won't get any "Jive Turkeys" out of us, as we were all impressed with the quality and direction for the show. Let's hope this finds a regular spot in the already crowded CW line-up.  We make our picks for next week's books - Marvel 2-in-One #2, Scooby-Doo Team-Up #34 and Abbott #1 make our list. But can you guess which podcaster chose which book?  Next up we discuss the 2017 year-end numbers from Diamond. What were the best selling comic books and collected editions from the last year? Who was the top publisher of the year in terms of market share? We like to believe that we made some interesting observations along

The accusations against Stan Lee, and what fanboys should do or not do in this situation.  Our three picks for next week's releases, brought to you by the fine folks at Clint's Comics.  Reviews of Batman: White Knight and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles from DC Comics.  A look ahead to Black Lightning debuting on the CW, and the possibility of a Black Widow movie from Marvel.  The announcement of our new WCPE T-shirt which will be available at Planet Comicon for pick-up.
