We find ourselves halfway through January now and assume that the new year's resolutions you made may have fallen by the wayside. Never fear though, for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! has a new set of resolutions that we can all get behind. Comic Book Resolutions! This list was put together by Peter Rios for his Daily Rios podcast two weeks ago. Peter offered up 10 resolutions for the comic book lover. Some of these are already habits of ours, so we are doing great keeping these resolutions. We even offer up an extra resolution that needs to be practiced each and every day by EVERYONE! Welcome back to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Two Fridays in 2020, two podcasts released. Dang, we finally got this podcast thing figured out. This week, we spend the majority of the show discussing a list published by Bleeding Cool on December 31. You can find that list here. Each year, Bleeding Cool puts together a list of the Top 100 Power List of Comics. This list ranks everyone that is somehow related to comic books, characters, or publishers. We focus on the top 10 on the list, which leads to some great conversation about what is a comic book and the impact of a publisher on a company. Welcome to 2020! The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! guys are back from the Star Wars holiday with a lot of catching up to do. And you get to sit back and take it all in. Obviously, the big discussion is with Star Wars Episode Nine: The Rise of Skywalker. This movie brought to a conclusion the story that has been 42 years in the making. We laughed, we cried, and (because I can finally make a joke that is current again) it was better than Cats.  Not only that, but we have the final episode of season one of The Mandalorian to discuss. Killer babysitting droid, sewer escape, darksabers, and so much more which had us on the edge of our seats. So what's everyone doing this weekend? Going to see a movie? If we could make a suggestion for you, we think that the Star Wars Episode Nine: The Rise of Skywalker movie opening today might be a big hit. Of course, it's going to be a huge hit. Probably the largest film of 2019, and that's saying a lot considering it only has 11 days to work with to top Avengers: Endgame. We know many of you will be attending a showing (or two or three...) throughout the weekend and the guys of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! will be there too to take it all in. But before we view the new film, we have two episodes of The Mandalorian to discuss. Episode six dropped last Friday and episode seven dropped mid-week, so we have a lot of catching up to do with our new favorite bounty hunter. This is a story that writer Brian Michael Bendis has been working towards for some time, and leads the guys to discuss the concept of secret identities. Secret identities have long been a story trope of most superhero comic book stories. It allows the writer to place the main character in different situations to add to the storylines. Some secret identities work better than others. Sometimes the secret identity of a character is not when they are wearing their costume. So begins the new world order with the rollout of the Disney + streaming service this week. To get things started, one of the first original programmings shows on Disney + is The Mandalorian, which focuses on a bounty hunter (wearing a very familiar armor) in the world following sometime after the conclusion of Return of the Jedi. We have a lot to talk about just with the first episode, so sit back and enjoy a reasonably non-spoiled look at our new favorite show. So we got so caught up looking at the monsters last month, that we missed out on discussing a very important book that came out last month. Let's make up for that by focusing our new episode on Superman Smashes the Klan #1 from DC Comics. Written by Gene Luen Yang and art by Gurihiru, the book is a cross between the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons of the 1940s and current anime styles from Japan. The story itself is set in the 1940s, as a Chinese-American family moves to Metropolis, but they do not receive a friendly welcome to the big city. This is the first of a three-issue series, and we consider it a must read for all ages! Unfortunately, we were a podcaster down at the time of the recording. People, you cannot get this show started quick enough. This has to be one of our favorite interviews to date, and we've done a lot of them over the last five years. We got to sit down with actor David Dastmalchian to discuss his brand new comic Count Crowley from Dark Horse Comics. If you're not familiar with David's name, you probably recognize his film. From The Dark Knight to Ant-Man/Ant-Man and the Wasp to Blade Runner 2049 to Gotham to The Flash and so many more. Very quietly over the summer, the podcast entered it's fifth year of comic talking, which according to our top-notch research team, makes us the longest-running lowest-rate show in our demographic. We are proud to be the Worst. And we are pleased that you, our loyal listeners, come back for the Worst each and every week. Now, to add to the numbers of year five of podcasting, the odometers for each of us are going to roll over to 50 over the next nine months. John leaves the 49 club behind in a matter of hours as this podcast is posted, with Jerry following in two months. The youngster of the bunch, Cullen, will join 50 next June. (And yes, he still gets carded!) We are all excited for the new opportunities being 50 gives us, such as additional medical exams and those sweet AARP discounts.
