Show Notes:    Tip 1: Understand that it will pass - ride the wave It feels like that is it, no more creative juice, no ideas flowing, thats it, start again.  Nothing left, world is coming to an end - relax.  It WILL pass. Think of it like a wave - some waves are big, some are small, but if you ride it you will reach the sure and have a fun time doing it if you do it right. If you beat yourself up  when this happens all you do is stay in the same place - nothing productive will come from it.   We are only human.  But, think of your body like a car, and just like a car that needs fuel for a long journey - every now and again you need to let the car be, rest, refuel and come back and it is fine.   Understand it may happen Understand it will stop Tip 2: Watch dance clips/movies Try watching old clips that used to inspire you Search for recent competition clips Search for any new dance clips Watch dance movies that you love Tip 3: Search for new music Sometim

  • SDL 003 : 8 Beginner Tips to help you WIN in Street Dance competitions and Battles

    31/08/2014 Duración: 15min

In the 3rd episode of the SS4A Podcast: Street Dance Life, I share 8 tips that will help beginners WIN in Street Dance competitions and Battles, taken from my experiences and observations studying battles since 2004 Show Notes: Tip 1: Listen to the Music I know this might seem obvious, but trust me it is harder than it seems.  A REAL Street Dance judges pet hate will be when people are off beat.  What ever you do, do it on beat.   It is better to do more simple move son beat than more difficult moves off beat.   simple is funky, less is more   Tip 2: Look Up/at the person who you are battling Again this might seem simple, but one common mistake that beginner dancers make is looking down - ALL the time.  I am not saying it is bad to look down, but in certain competitions it is about the dance AND about how you perform.  shows a lack of confidence. Tip 3: Don't use all your moves in 1 go: When you compete/battle you need to think like a winner.  A beginne

It is hard to find the right partner when they experience you being good at street dance Alpha male those same people would most likely not have spoken to you if they did not see you dance Some people are looking for trophy partners and when people see you do your thing you will attract those people Not always Be wa

    30/08/2014 Duración: 22min

Show Notes:    Stay on beat.  The most important thing is being in beat. the idea is you use the music for inspiration to help you create new ideas and moves, not to just randomly dance to the track.  You cannot learn everything from youtube. YouTube has it's good points. It is free for a start but it also has a lot of videos teaching you the incorrect info and ways to do things. There are some great videos out there but to really improve it is good to be a part of a community wether it is going to a class or being a part of an online community where you can ask questions and get feedback and corrections.  Street dance.  The term Street Dance a lot think that it is a style of dance.  When I havce asked people before I have said - what style do you do, and they have said "street dance" or just "street" which deeply irritates me but hey!  My next question then would be "oh ok what styles do you do" the answer is oftern with confusion.  Street Dance is not
