  • Episode 77: The Myth of Stretching

    06/01/2021 Duración: 49min

Stretching, icing, all that sort of massage, all that kind of rehab stuff, super, super important, right? Maybe it's the worst thing you could be doing for yourself, if you're trying to be a healthier, better human being, let alone athlete. We're going to find out more about that on today's episode of The MOVEMENT Movement Podcast. Today I am chatting with Brianne Showman, PT, DPT, a Physical Therapist by trade, but what she primarily does, is coach runners and obstacle course racers. Many years ago, Brianne was a traditional therapist who saw the injured person in an insurance-based clinic, and she got very fed up with what insurance companies do to control us. She got very fed up with just fixing broken people constantly, so she became a coach to get people on the front end of things in order to make more resilient athletes rather than constantly fixing broken people. • Episode 76: Do Running Shoes Make you Stupid?

    03/12/2020 Duración: 16min

Now, I'm not suggesting that if you put on a pair of traditional running shoes, your IQ will go down, you won't get into the college of your choice, or you won't be able to fill out a tax form or a crossword puzzle. But, I'm going to talk about two other kinds of stupidity. And when I talk about traditional running shoes, traditional is sort of a funny word to use because what most people think of as a running shoe, thick, padded, motion control, arch support, elevated heel, things like that. Frankly, that's actually not traditional. For most of human history, we ran in shoes that looked frankly more like the minimalist shoe, just enough to protect you from the ground and hold that protection onto your foot. So what I'm talking about with traditional running shoes... And here's one of the ways they make you dumber, because they have all that cushioning, which we think we need, we think. Well, Cushing is good, because running must be hard on the joint, so we need cushioning, right? Well, it's a great idea, but

    18/11/2020 Duración: 54min

I often talk about how feet are the most important thing, but I also talk about how glutes are the most important thing. And, maybe to train your glutes, you need to train your feet. Chong Xie practiced Wushu as a child in Beijing Sport University, is an avid researcher and student of Tai Chi, he has a bachelor degree of science from Binghamton University. • Episode 72: We Didn't Evolve This Way

    28/10/2020 Duración: 16min

Here on The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, we talk about natural movement. Is what we're talking about actually even natural? Did we evolve to do the things that we talk about doing? I get an email maybe once a week or a comment on YouTube video once or twice a week that says what I'm talking about, this whole idea of using footwear like ours, that doesn't have a bunch of cushioning and padding and motion control in our support. Or, even walking and running barefoot. That's not good. It's not what you're supposed to do. Only amazingly, wonderfully talented gifted genetic freak people can actually do it, because we didn't evolve on hard surfaces, we didn't evolve to be able to run on pavement, we didn't evolve to be able to stand on cement floors all day. So let me give you the shortest version of today's podcast...that's complete nonsense. Let's take a look at why that is on today's episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast. If you have questions for me about the show, please email me, Steven Sashen, at move@joint

  • Episode 70: The Best and WORST Shoes to Wear with Orthotics

    16/09/2020 Duración: 11min

What's the worst shoe that you could wear if you're wearing orthotics? And, what's the best shoe that you can wear if you're wearing orthotics? We're going to talk about that in today's episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast. If you're going to wear orthotics or insoles, you need to be very careful about what you're putting them in. Because, if you put them in the wrong shoe, it can not only make whatever situation you're dealing with, well, it can make the benefits disappear and it could also make the situation you're dealing with even worse. Why is that? We'll talk about that and much more... So, let's dive in... • Episode 69: The Most Dangerous Shoes in the World

    02/09/2020 Duración: 22min

Can shoes be dangerous? Oh yes, they can. They can be be very dangerous. Today, we are going to talk about the most dangerous shoes in the world, right here on The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, the podcast for people who want to know the truth about what it takes to have a happy, healthy, strong body, starting feet first. So here's where this whole dangerous shoe thing came from, someone I was talking to recently said that he went to a running shoe store and they won't sell shoes like Xero Shoes because they're dangerous, the most dangerous shoes ever, he said. Okay. So, let's jump into this, and I have to tell you, there's really a funny thing, because if you go to running shoe stores, in like Europe, they don't tell you this story, they don't have this idea that something truly minimalist, something that lets your foot move naturally, is somehow dangerous. If you have questions for me about the show, please email me, Steven Sashen, at move@jointhemovementmovement.com, or visit the website at www.jointhemovemen

    19/08/2020 Duración: 58min

Research is really clear for runners, walkers, hikers, getting stronger is better, and now you can't go to the gym, but you might want to go back to the gym. She was a triathlete suffering from chronic foot, knee,

  • Episode 65: How to NOT Pick a Good Shoe

    15/07/2020 Duración: 21min

I'm going to give you some negative advice, how to not pick a good running shoe on today's episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast.  I think it's important to know how not to do things in order to inform how to do things. Even when I'm teaching people how to run naturally or run barefoot, I'll often have them exaggerate bad patterns because that way it really highlights what that pattern is and makes it easier to start doing something different.  I'm Steven Sashen from XeroShoes.com, your host of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, where we're creating a movement about natural movement. • Episode 64: What Shoes Did Jesus Wear?

    08/07/2020 Duración: 33min

What shoes did Jesus wear? Or Moses or Muhammad or Buddha? Well, we're going to take a look at that in today's episode of The MOVEMENT Movement, the podcast where people will want to know the truth about what it takes to have a happy, healthy, strong body starting with the feet first, because those things are your foundation. We explore the propaganda, the mythology, the outright lies, that sometimes people have told you about what it takes to run or walk or hike, or do yoga or CrossFit or whatever you like to do for fun, and to do it enjoyably and efficiently and effectively. And did I mentioned enjoyably? Yes, I know I did, but that's the most important part. If it ain't fun, do something different till it is. I'm Steven Sashen from XeroShoes.com, your host of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, where we're creating a movement about natural movement.
