Episodios

  • Episode 55 - Search and Destroy (1995) with Elizabeth Hopkins

    13/05/2019 Duración: 22min

Well here's a weird one! Friend of the podcast Elizabeth Hopkins returns to discuss the little-seen 1995 film SEARCH AND DESTROY, the only film directed by American artist David Salle and produced by Martin Scorsese! Ethan plays cult leader Daniel Strong (Dennis Hopper)'s assistant who gets to slap Griffin Dunne around a bit. We talk cults, the charm of Illeana Douglas, John Tuturro's wig, artistic ambitions, and "a strong female character with huge tits". Keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 54 - Stockholm (2019)

    29/04/2019 Duración: 26min

Everybody, hands up! This is a podcast! We have a new release this week, one that finally made its way to Boston: STOCKHOLM! Directed by the same filmmaker who turned Ethan into Chet Baker for BORN TO BE BLUE, STOCKHOLM is the story of the 1973 bank hostage crisis from which the term "Stockholm syndrome" was born! It's a good movie with a wonderfully cracked-out Ethan performance. Go see it! And keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 53 - WGBH News Quiz (2019) with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan!

    15/04/2019 Duración: 20min

Newsflash: We were on the radio in February to discuss Hawke Cast with Jim and Margery of WGBH! WGBH graciously allowed us to put the audio of our Friday News Quiz on the Hawke Cast feed. If you haven't listened yet, please check it out! The audio quiz was VERY difficult! And keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 52 - Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) with Michael Roberson

    08/04/2019 Duración: 35min

In January of 2005, one of the darkest years of film on record, Ethan Hawke found himself in a modern remake of John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. And it turned out to be a lot of fun! Michael Roberson joins the five-timers club of Hawke Cast guests and joins us for a discussion of this 'pretty good' remake. We talk fashion, tertiary characters, fun action scenes, and how the female characters are mostly sidelined for no real reason. Maria Bello deserves better! And as always, keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 51 - Robot Chicken - "Squaw Bury Shortcake" - 2007

    20/03/2019 Duración: 07min

Today, March 20th, is the second anniversary of Hawke Cast! Ain't that something special? To celebrate, we recorded an episode about one of Ethan's rare TV roles, because leaving anything out at this point is just irresponsible. Unfortunately, this role just so happens to be a voice on Adult Swim's worst (?) show, Robot Chicken. These jokes have aged worse than milk left on a porch. Also Ethan is in it for like 15 seconds. Why did we do this? Don't say we've never done anything for you. Never watch Robot Chicken. But always keep Hawke-ing the skies.

  • Episode 50 - The Kid (2019)

    18/03/2019 Duración: 19min

Howdy, folks! It's our first 2019 Ethan film discussion, THE KID directed by longtime Hawke-friend, Vincent D'Onofrio! It a western about Billy the Kid (Dane DeHaan, perfectly cast) and his longtime nemesis Sheriff Pat Garrett (Mr. Hawke). It's pretty good! Join us 'round the campfire for some tales of fake beards, director cameos, male shouting, and streaming content trends. And as always, keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 49 - Good Kill (2014) with Zack Bond

    04/03/2019 Duración: 37min

What's so bad about drone bombing? Besides, well, everything about it. Ethan is trying to figure that out, while also trying to prevent the absolute decay of his immortal soul, in the 2014 film Good Kill. Zack Bond returns to discuss this Andrew Niccol-directed film about a drone pilot whose conscience is awakened after he kills civilians in Afghanistan from a box in Las Vegas. The film is available on Netflix and is worth checking out, even if you already know drone bombing should be a war crime. January Jones, Zoe Kravitz, and Bruce Greenwood costar. The poems read at the top of the program, 'War with Computers' and 'Twelve Hour Shifts' are from Reaper (2017) by Jill McDonough. Keep Hawke-ing the skies, and don't forget to follow our Twitter!

  • Episode 48 - True West (2019) with Tom Phelan

    18/02/2019 Duración: 34min

Third time's the Tom? *I am immediately strangled by my brother Paul Dano* For our final exploration of True West, we called up thespian Tom Phelan for his take on the proceedings. We talk Ethan's gut, toast, toasters, boyfights, Neil Gaiman possibly scamming some people, and much much more. This show sounds like a nice night out. Imagine if Ethan gets another Tony nom for being a gross monster on stage? That'd be fun. Keep Hawke-ing the skies, and be sure to follow us on Twitter!

  • Episode 47 - True West (2019) with Ben Ferber and Alison Schilling

    18/02/2019 Duración: 39min

Wait, where are Corey and Kyle? They're not here. They don't live in New York. They can't just go to Broadway shows all the time! Thank goodness friends of pod, Ben Ferber and Alison Schilling, are on call to break down Ethan Hawke's new play True West! That's right, Ben and Alison are hosting their very own Hawke Cast episode, and things are gonna get a little crazy! We've got segments galore, fancy sound effects, breakdowns of how theatrical copyright works, and even a special theme song just for this episode! You won't wanna miss this. And always keep Hawke-ing the skies.

  • Episode 46 - True West (2019) with Rebecca Bulnes

    18/02/2019 Duración: 21min

Did you know Ethan Hawke is on Broadway *right now*? We did, but we really didn't feel like shelling out the money for tickets. We've already done a lot for this guy, ya know? That's why we got four SPECIAL NEW YORK CORRESPONDENTS (but only three episodes) to tell us all about True West, in which Ethan stars as a real slimeball with Paul Dano as his brother! First up is quadruple threat (dancer/actor/writer/podcaster) Rebecca Bulnes, host of the delightful podcast Classroom Crush! She gets into Ethan's gut acting, motion on stage, and Jeremy Strong's feet, somehow! You'll love it. Enjoy our chat, and keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 45 - Cymbeline (2015) with Shannon Keane

    04/02/2019 Duración: 23min

Welcome back to Hawke Cast! This is a new era for the pod, because Ethan Hawke himself found out we exist. Good news though, he loves us. Come on the show! It'll be fun! Anyway, our first episode of 2019 is CYMBELINE with returning friend of the podcast, Shannon Keane! This film has the same director as Hamlet (2002), but is way more fun. Join us as we discuss Shakespeare adaptations, platonic bro squeezes, iPads on skateboards, and Dakota Johnson's outfits. And from now until the end, keep Hawke-ing the skies.   Also follow our Twitter.

  • Episode 44 - An Interview with Hunter Harris of Vulture!

    19/12/2018 Duración: 30min

Yes hello! For the final Hawke Cast of 2018, we got to do something very special. Here we have an interview with Vulture's own Hunter Harris, a wonderful writer and Ethan Hawke enthusiast. Hunter and I came together to discuss Ethan's stellar 2018, especially his soon-to-be-Oscar-nominated performance in First Reformed. We also talk about the Before Trilogy, Ethan's remarkable ability to give thoughtful interviews, Bradley Cooper's seeming lack of enthusiasm, and how Vice sucks. Let's just say, if Ethan doesn't get a Best Actor nomination, the Academy will be hearing from Harris. Thanks for listening to all 22 episodes this year. We will return in January after a short break. Have a happy new year, and as always, keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 43 - The Jimmy Show (2002) with Ali Russo & Todd Stark

    26/11/2018 Duración: 43min

Do you like comedy? Me neither, good thing this movie isn't funny and is instead a dark character study based on a play! Ali Russo and Todd Stark join us to discuss The Jimmy Show, directed by and starring Frank Whaley. Ethan plays his work friend who's always stoned. We talk self-direction, New Jersey, the nature of adaptation, and the American Dad episode "Blood Crieth Unto Heaven", which we rewatched immediately after recording.   Keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 42 - Getaway (2013) with Dan Vruno

    12/11/2018 Duración: 37min

Today's film, GETAWAY, is actually a Christmas movie, which doesn't entirely fit with the month of November. Also, we recorded this in August. However, this film is unbelievably perplexing, so this episode quickly became our CONSPIRACIES SPECIAL. Conspiracies addressed with the help of special guest Dan Vruno: Was this film a front for the mob? Did Ethan Hawke inspire Justin Bieber to grow a beard? Why is Selena Gomez the most followed person on Instagram? Why did Ethan Hawke take the role of BRETT MAGNA? What is Tonight at Noon, and why was it filmed in 2005 to never be released? And more! Enjoy this episode about one of Ethan's worst movies, and please keep Hawke-ing the skies!

  • Episode 41 - Sinister (2012) with Nameless Cults!

    31/10/2018 Duración: 38min

Happy HallowEthan/Ethanween! Hope you're getting some treats! In our very first CROSSOVER EPISODE, we have the hosts of acclaimed horror podcast NAMELESS CULTS, Michael Roberson and Dan Cullen! We're discussing the 2012 horror film SINISTER, which was genuinely frightening! Ethan plays a washed-up horror writer who discovers some gruesome film in his new home. You can probably guess what happens next.  Join us for a lively discussion of the film, some fun horror movie trivia, and the one Family Guy joke that Kyle has had stuck in his head since 2003.   Keep Hawke-ing the skies, and listen to Nameless Cults wherever you get your podcasts!

  • Episode 40 - Regression (2016) with Dan Richman & Todd Stark

    15/10/2018 Duración: 32min

Welcome to Ethanween! Hallowethan? Whatever, you get it. First up we have a movie that's ostensibly meant to be scary, but it mostly just terrible! It's REGRESSION, which stars Ethan as a detective named BRUCE KENNER. It also stars Emma Watson, who is terrible here. Dan Richman and Todd Stark join us to discuss bad American accents, a gruesome sex scene, and a theory that this film was rewritten at the last minute to make even LESS sense. Keep Hawke-ing the skies.

  • Episode 39 - Blaze (2018)

    24/09/2018 Duración: 22min

It's finally here! The latest film directed by Mr. Hawke, BLAZE! This is a special episode because we got to see Ethan do a Q&A after the screening, and he's pretty much a genius! Enjoy the episode, the first episode in the "AME" era (After Meeting Ethan), and keep Hawke-ing the skies!
