The Gospel of Mark sets up an introduction to Jesus as a better King of a better kingdom. His initial message is one of repentance which means to change our perspective or understanding and change the direction we are going. It is his work to put us back together after we have been broken by our own choices and the choices of others. His promise is profound...that you can know and find God by following the path of Jesus. The story of Jesus's baptism in the Gospel of Mark continues to pull imagery from the Old Testament as a sinless Jesus is not being baptized to be "saved" or forgiven for his sins. Instead it points to the truth that Jesus is the way to the promised land. Just as the Jordan waters were parted by Joshua and again by Elijah and Elisha, the waters parted as God reveals Jesus is his son and he is pleased with him. "The Gospel of Mark: Out of the Wilderness" is now available!

Mark's gospel to the Romans begins by associating the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the story that God has been telling since Genesis. Part 1 reminds us of the creation story while part 2 points us back to the exodus in the wilderness with this interesting herald, John the Baptist. The Gospel of Mark is considered by some to be the first gospel written and that Matthew and Luke expanded upon his work. The author was writing to a particularly Roman audience that shares a lot of cultural similarities to us. His gospel is straightforward for a modern western reader and is focused on showing how the Kingdom of God was stronger and greater than the kingdom of Rome while weaving in the OT themes with a consistent thread from Genesis through the life and teachings of Jesus. In Paul's letter to the church in Corinth, he wanted to address a growing problem developing between those who were doing great things in the church. People began ranking the importance of leaders and practitioners while destroying unity and abusing the time they gathered for worship. In between chapters 12 and 14 rests "the more excellent way". It is often quoted at marriages, but it is meant to be a way of life. If our vision and our practice is missing the tangible expression of love, it really doesn't matter. There is a better way. As we imagine what God may be preparing for our "next", we will always have a common purpose: To be the body of Christ with others, for others, always. When our imagination is self-focused, it is usually not the vision God is planting for His Kingdom.

If you are looking for God’s work in your life, is it possible he is and is waiting for you to take a step to fully realize it? The story of the blind man is really not about the man, but about being blind spiritually. Sometimes, God is expecting you to take a step before he fulfills the work he's doing in you. We can all relate to the chaotic waters in the story of Jesus walking on water. Peter's attempt to walk on water would have been a powerful metaphor for the disciples to see that Jesus is God and he has power over chaos, our enemies and the struggles that we will inevitably face as we follow him. Accepting the call to the deep means choosing to surrender and explore the depths is the call of Christ to see what he wants to do in you and in the world through you.

Throughout human history, people have believed for big things that were bigger than even they could have imagined. The Bible is full of those stories, too. As you imagine what could be and should be, dare to believe the impossible! "imagiNEXT: Believe in the Impossible" is now available!

When Jesus called his first disciples in the Gospel of John, he issued this invitation...'Come and See". There were no promises, no miracles, just the testimony of others that he was different and they should follow. The invitation is still available to us and it is more than just an opportunity to observe, it is an invitation to wrap our entire lives around Jesus as his disciples. Will you come and see? Following Jesus is, in many ways, a journey into the unknown. He will meet you where you are, no matter where you are, but he will lead you to places that you never imagined...before. When we are willing to ignite our imaginations in tandem with the draw of Jesus, we will discover that "In Christ, there is ALWAYS a NEXT". Will you make the journey to something truly spectacular? Sometimes things go wrong in marriage for a number of reasons that lead to divorce. We in the church tend to avoid that conversation but we shouldn't.
