No issue is more talked about today than sex. Moreover, no issue finds the church more at odds with the prevailing mood of culture. Traditional sexual ethics, which were the architecture of civilization for most of history, are being dismissed as outdated, uncivil, and anti-human. Treasures of Christian morality - monogamy, virginity and chastity – are dissolving. At a moment such as this, what is the church to do?

This workshop will illuminate several ways any size church, its rector and any parishioner can participate in church planting in our Diocese. Hint: money is not necessary! You will learn: how to inspire and identify potential church planters; how people with spiritual gifts of mercy, helps, administration, intercession, and evangelism can participate; and the many ways L10-2 (the planting arm of the Great Commission Committee) can help you and your church.

Abortion and Euthanasia are two well-known life issues that are often seen as political topics to be avoided in church. But our people are dealing with these issues, and they need the church to address them from a pastoral perspective. This workshop will provide practical pastoral tools and resources to equip lay and ordained leaders for life decisions and to reach out with the love of Jesus.

Sometimes it may seem like everyone is using online social media to communicate. Even the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope are regular users of Twitter. Most churches now are expected to have an active Facebook page as well as their website. How do we effectively and responsibly use social media tools to reach out in practical ways with the love of God and the Good News of Jesus Christ? Where should we be cautious and discerning in using these tools? How do we develop social media resources?

The Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic is considering a proposal for percentage askings in the diocese. Bishop Guernsey outlines the proposal to the Synod 2013 gathering, requesting the local congregations to reflect and discuss the proposal in the coming year.
