23/09/2019 Duración: 53minEnlisting in the Army at the age of 22, Will Robinson had no idea how impactful of an experience it would be. Although honored and proud to serve his country, he returned 5 years later a broken man. Mentally, physically, and emotionally, the next 12 years of his life would be a stumbling progression of surgeries and therapy, with the constant companions of depression and anxiety. That is until one day while flipping through channels, he saw the movie, Wild. Two weeks later, Will was at the southern terminus of the PCT. The rest is well, now history. Will finished his last step of the Triple Crown just over a week ago, becoming the first African American man to complete the journey. Ep. 572: The Adventure of Fly Fishing - Jon Hogins
19/09/2019 Duración: 54minGrowing up in California, Jon was taken on epic adventures by his father into the local mountains and national parks where the opportunity to fly fish was abundant. Later in life, however, Jon found himself in the much warmer Texas landscape where he had to adjust his skills to continue pursuing the sport. Fly fishing is the perfect minimalistic complementary skill to so many other adventure sports; backpacking, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, etc. It doesn't take much to throw a small rod and a few flies in with your gear and have some fresh fish on your adventure. Ep. 570: Paddling the Nile River - Sarah Davis
12/09/2019 Duración: 01h15minSarah has always been involved in sports and has always loved adventure. She credits her mother for that. As a child she would pour through her mother’s photo albums of faraway places, hoping to one day go herself. After years of working in the world of banking and traveling to over 40 countries, Sarah was thumbing through adventures that have never been completed when she realized no woman had ever paddled the entire Nile River, the longest river in the world. She immediately began planning what that would look like to attempt. She was overwhelmed with fear and worry, but that didn’t stop her. Today, we’re listening to her story of paddling the entire Nile River and what it means to put one food (or paddle) in front of the other, even when your comfort zone is nowhere in sight. www.paddlethenile.com Instagram @paddlethenile www.sarahdavis.co Athletic Brewing Company is a pioneer in craft non-alcoholic beer. Ep. 569: Canoeing 1,000 Miles Through Canada’s Tundra - Stephan Kesting
09/09/2019 Duración: 01h27minStephan Kesting is probably best known for the huge number of Brazilian jiu-jitsu videos he has on Youtube, the martial arts training articles he’s written for Grapplearts.com, and his instructional videos which people consume in app form, online streaming form, and DVD form. What’s not as well known is that he’s also a full-time firefighter who received the national medal of bravery for helping save two trapped firefighters from a collapse in a burning warehouse. He’s also been an avid outdoorsman for decades. For example, in 2015 he was dying of kidney failure due to a genetic condition. A kidney transplant saved his life and 6 months later he completed a 50 km mountain endurance hike with 2,600 meters of vertical climb and descent in the snow in a single day. He recently completed a 42 day, 1000 mile canoe trip that took him from the boreal forest of northern Canada to the open barren land tundra, and then down to Hudson bay. He was by himself and carried all his food and supplies with him. It was truly th

Ep. 568: How an Injury and Opportunity Is Leading Thousands to Learn Snowboarding Virtually - Fraser Johnston
06/09/2019 Duración: 53minWhen Fraser Johnston injured himself one summer, he realized that if the same injury had happened during the snowboarding season, he’d be in a heap of trouble. As a snowboard instructor, your body’s health is crucial to earning a living since you need to be on a board with your students. He quickly began brainstorming ideas to help scale his knowledge and passion for snowboarding, just in case. On top of that, Fraser noticed a huge lack of sign-ups in snowboarding lessons compared to skiing. The cultural stigma of snowboards and skyrocketing prices of gear and lift tickets helped fuel the idea of an economical and virtual way for him to make snowboarding more accessible to more people. He came up with Watch and Ride, a series of virtual lessons from basic to advanced to teach every type of snowboarder new tricks, skills, and the science behind snowboarding to optimally enjoy their time on the mountain. The business has been growing steadily, as well as his skills in marketing, content-creating, and scale. I

Ep. 560: Pushing Yourself While Pushing Your Mother - Beth Craig
19/08/2019 Duración: 52minWhen Beth’s mom, Barbara, was diagnosed with MS at the age of 38, a lot of things quickly seemed out of control and out of reach. Her mother’s confinement to a wheelchair was now the new normal. However, nothing seemed to be able to stop Barbara’s (Babsie) from wearing her room-filling smile. Years later, when Beth went to a local running event, she saw Rick and Dick Hoyt running in a modified wheelchair, since Rick was unable to walk or speak after being born with Cerebral Palsy. Once Beth saw the father-son duo doing the impossible, she knew that she and her mother could do those events too. She got a hold of a Hoyt “Blade” running wheelchair and started running with her mother, creating Team Babsie. To date, they’ve completed tons of 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, marathons, triathlons and charity bike rides. Last summer, Team Babsie pushed Babsie to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. Currently, they are training to qualify for the Boston Marathon and in the Spring of 2020 they are headed to Spain
