The Renaissance painter Raphael worked himself to death on the most famous oil painting in the world "The Transfiguration" which resides in the Vatican today. This painting depicts the two distinctly different scenes of the glory of Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration contrasted with the disciples down below who failed miserably in casting out a demon. Peter, James, and John see Jesus transfigured in all of His majesty glory. The big idea of this passage is this: Followers of Christ must continually listen to Christ. In Luke 9:28-36, (1) we see the glory of the new Exodus (vs. 28-31) (2) we see a misplaced eagerness to control Jesus (vs. 32-33), and (3) we hear the approving voice of the Father. (vs. 34-35). The role of women in ministry has made major headlines in Southern Baptist life in the past few weeks. Beth Moore announced her exit from the SBC because she is now an egalitarian.
