DIY Sportsman - North Dakota Roundtable
17/09/2020 Duración: 01h16minToday's episode was recorded in North Dakota during our public land trip. Like I had mentioned on some earlier podcasts, Shane Simpson was of course up there again. Plus some of the Tethrd crew tagged along. And, the Ranch Fairy showed up. So we essentially got together and did a little round table with Greg Godfrey, Jared Shaffer, Carl Kossuth, Shane, Troy aka Ranch Fairy, Dylan Hazen, who was filming for Tethrd, as well as myself. We talked about our experience thus far, broadhead and arrow setups along with some ad-hoc broadhead testing on a deer carcass, cyber scouting, North Dakota laws, and lessons learned on the trip. We recorded outside, so there is a little bit of wind noise, but not too bad. A tornado siren started about 40 minutes in, so we apologize for that, but it was a little out of our control. Ohio Huntsman - Bands, Tags, & Collars
16/09/2020 Duración: 52minWith waterfowl seasons beginning to open up across Ohio; we found it timely to discuss bird bands on this week's episode. We discuss the idea of shooting a banded bird as being a trophy, but harvesting a collared or tagged big game species is thought to be much less desirable. We also discuss a few reasons as to why there is a significant portion of the population that refuses to report the harvest of banded birds. Lastly, we discuss tagged/collared big game animals and how them being tagged can often diminish their "wildness" because you as the hunter are no longer the first human to lay hands on that animal. Land & Legacy - What Happened to the Quality Bucks?
15/09/2020 Duración: 39minOn this podcast, you will hear our take on a listener question. This question falls right in line with some of the recent podcasts we are having regarding herd management. This time it is on a bigger scale. We look beyond a single property and involve regions and states. During the podcast, we talk about a real life example form Southern Iowa. This podcast follower has seen a decrease in the number and quality of bucks over the course of 8 years, despite completing some pretty serious land and herd management during this time. So, we break down in an honest review of what this landowner could be experiencing. This neighborhood is seeing crazy lease values and outfitting. The number of mature bucks being harvested annually is only increasing. The targets are being shot while does are left to increase. If you want to hear the answer to this question on a deeper level, then follow along on the podcast. Take a dive down to the complexities of managing wild free ranging whitetails. #ForLoveoftheLand Land &

Transition Wild - Q&A Elk Hunting Scenarios with Ben Guttormson
10/09/2020 Duración: 01h59minToday I’m joined by my friend Ben Guttormson for another badass elk hunting podcast. What’s cool about this episode is that it’s positioned as a question and answer format of various hunting situational and preparation scenarios, where Ben explains what he would do and the reasons why. During our discussion of preparation, I have him rank five categories of scouting, fitness, shooting, gear, and calling and how he prioritizes them in order of most important to least important. I also have him break down what a week long hunt would look like day by day if he were dropped into a unit blind without any prior knowledge of the area. We round out the episode with “in the field” type scenarios where he breaks down certain scenarios of calling and how he would set up to get within bow range of elk, given a number of circumstances. We also cover strategies for locating elk in various weather and early season conditions when the rut is not in full swing yet. If you are hunting elk tin the west this fall, this episode i

N.F.C. - Opening Day Success with Ted Bright
09/09/2020 Duración: 01h14minWith one month to prepare for an out of state hunt and a little help from his social network, Ted Bright hit the digital scouting hard to look for public ground to hunt in Nebraska. As he was planning for the hunt he realized that using water to access where thought the deer would be lives he decided to bring his kayak to the party. After a 10 hour drive, some boots on the ground scouting, and a full trial run to do some glassing, he was able to locate the deer he wanted to hunt opening morning. At 3:00 a.m. he hopped in his kayak for a 6 mile float, and then a 2.5 mile hike, to find the perfect location to hang his saddle. With little movement that morning, he decided to get down and find a new location for the evening hunt. With light fading fast, a good buck came in from behind him offering Ted a 14 yard shot. Land & Legacy - Managing For Improved Age Structures
08/09/2020 Duración: 01h16minOn this podcast, you will hear the recipe for having more big bucks on the landscape. This isn't rocket science, yet it seems hunters get caught up in genetics and food plots constantly. If you want more deer with bigger antlers then develop an age structure that allows deer to reach maturity. Plain and simple. As the season begins to open up in your neighborhood, you are immediately faced with decisions. Do you harvest certain bucks or not? Without fail, we will hear, if I don't my neighbor will... Well, guess what, if you do, then your neighbor will not, regardless, you don't control every outcome. But every time you kill a but in defense of a neighbor, it dies. It doesn't get older and you were the road block between developing the age structure you wanted, not anyone else. The secret recipe for big bucks comes not by buying products but with education, habitat, and age structure. The age structure can be influenced by not harvesting younger age class deer, offering secure cover, and crea
