DIY Sportsman - Hunt Breakdown, New Tethrd Sticks, and Cell Cams
01/10/2020 Duración: 50minThis week's episode starts with a more detailed hunt breakdown from North Dakota. The group podcast and videos don't go into as fine of detail to the exact lay of the land, wind direction, and learnings about deer bedding in river bottoms as this description. Next, I give an overview of the new Tethrd One sticks, their design aspects and things I either like or don't like about them at this point. The latter part of the podcast dives into how we're trying to stay on top of the transitioning patterns of the deer locally. The acorn crop has been very weak overall, which has shifted much of the diet to browse. We keep holding hope that there's still an oak to stumble across that actually dropping acorns and is a major draw, but in the meantime deer are still bedding and feeding in the areas we'd expect in the marshes. Cell cams, where legal, have started to become a bigger part of the game plan this year, from monitoring other hunter pressure to determining when some of these pattern shi

Land & Legacy - Chasing a Missouri Velvet 8-Pointer
29/09/2020 Duración: 57minOn this podcast, we complete a multi-day hunt for a velvet 8-pointer in southern Missouri. We take you through the techniques and strategy we go through over several days of the hunt. This is an installment with almost play-by-play action. After observing a big 150 inch 8 pointer, Chad goes in after him. We break down the strategy we deploy to get within bow range. This group of bucks is feeding each night in an alfalfa field on a cattle farm. To say there are a few variables to this hunt is an understatement. We break down our thought process as we attempt to put an arrow in this buck on the first weekend. We saddle hunt and even climb a tree only 10 feet off the ground to make this happen. Be sure to follow along with this exciting semi-live podcast. Enjoy the hunt breakdown! Land & Legacy - Habitat Management Quick Results and Quick Kills
29/09/2020 Duración: 45minLearning from someone else's mistakes and also their best practices is a lot easier than trying to learn from your own mistakes. Land & Legacy Client Eric Pitcock bought his farm in 2016 and began the process of land management. In the beginning he started with planting food plots, fruit trees, and switchgrass. Results were limited and it was until the year 2020 when the fruit trees produced the first fruit. Over the years he's modified his management style to focus more on long term effects that can also have immediate results, such as timber stand improvements and invasive species control. Have you ever heard of switchgrass plantings that result in a barrier deer won't utilize? This is a problem that Eric experienced after planting several acres in his old fields, fortunately enough he used a quick treatment of herbicide to knock the grass back and nature took over with head high natives that provided food and cover for many wildlife species! Nature loves diversity, and with Eric now managi

Huntavore - 5th Quarter Highlight with Liver
28/09/2020 Duración: 46minLiver. An organ we have all encountered along the way. For some of us, it's a familiar sight and brought into home and enjoyed as a delicacy. For others, it's something in the way of getting to the prime cuts, and either something that turns our nose or something we have not taken advantage of. Nick begins the discussion by first explaining “5th quarter” or as the Romans called it “quinto quarto” given to high nobility. While today these parts are discarded, their high nutrition has chefs and homesteaders again looking at what lies within. The Liver has a high nutrition value of many micro nutrients. And what we discovered is that organisms can only grow as large as their lowest nutrient. Shouldn’t that apply to us? Moving on from function we talk form, as in how to prepare the liver. Vessels, connective tissue, rind, and gall bladder all have to go. The liver then needs a soak either in milk or in a salty brine. While I choose the salty brine, others like Jonah Curtis from Hunt to Eat us

Land & Legacy - Observing Whitetails From the Treestand
22/09/2020 Duración: 01h05minWhitetails reveal all that we need to know if we can read their body language. As bow season has opened up here in Missouri and only a few hunts in, a few observations have hit us squarely in the face. Deer tell us everything we need to know. We've observed a large destination food plot twice now. This plot has had 25-30 deer in it each night. With that many deer, it is easy to observe common whitetail deer behavior. During this podcast, we breakdown how to read deer behavior. What does it mean when you see a deer's tail wag or a flag stand upright? What does it mean deer are alerted when feeding? What does it mean when you hear a deer blow? We break down all of these behaviors as many of them can be misunderstood by hunters. Knowing these common deer behaviors will make you a better woodsman and deer hunter. This information at the beginning of the season will give you the advantage as season opens up across the country. Missouri Woods & Water - A Buck Named Hollywood
22/09/2020 Duración: 01h09minWe thought it would be fitting to kick off Missouri's archery season with our first ever whitetail Tales of the Chase episode, and it's a good one. Nate and Andy sit down with Kenzie Thorp and hear an awesome story about a buck he nicknamed Hollywood that he was able to harvest in the 2019 archery season right here in Missouri. Kenzie tells the story from getting permission to hunt this property at the last second all the way up until he laid his hands on this magnificent deer. The guys also get into some other things like having respect for the animals you kill and self filming. Another really cool twist to this story is that Kenzie got this all on video to share with us. Check it out on his YouTube page at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3JH7Mmop1s. What an awesome story and video that gets us pumped up for whitetail season!!!
