  • Ohio Huntsman - Fishing Kayaks

    07/04/2021 Duración: 01h10min

This week on the show Jeff discusses his experiences with kayak fishing.  We discuss different types of kayaks and the features each has that are good for fishing.  Jeff talks about all the factors that went into his decision to purchase each of his kayaks and what features he wishes his kayak had, now that he has been put a few seasons in fishing from it.  He also talks about how comfort plays a large role in being successful while fishing from a kayak, as there is much less room to adjust your position inside a small boat.  Jeff also discusses how he manages his tackle box and other gear all while attempting to not lose anything into the water.  Another consideration that needs to go into the decision to fish from a kayak is the boat traffic on the lake because motorized boats will create waves that can be difficult to navigate while fishing.  If you have ever wondered what it is like to fish from a kayak or wanted to hear from someone who has experience doing it, this episode will answer most if not all yo

Throughout this podcast, you will hear of many different ways to create strut zones for wild turkeys. Yes, these are specifically managed areas in certain locations that provide both attraction and advantages to strutting toms.  These areas can be created in various habitat types including timbered ridges, food plots, pastures, hayfields, old fields, and CRP. We want to create areas that gobblers routinely come to after flying down to display their dominance, but also vocalize it! So terrain features and habitat comes into play when creating these areas. If done, properly you may just be creating nesting or brood-rearing cover at the same time as spring rolls into summer. • Ohio Huntsman - Possible New Firearms Legislation

    31/03/2021 Duración: 01h11min

This week on the show we discussed both HR 8 and HR1446.  These proposed bills both have direct impacts on anyone who owns and/or plans to own a firearm.  HR 8 is titled "The Bipartisan Background Checks act" and would prohibit a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer first takes possession of the firearm in order to complete a background check.  However, there are exceptions that we cover in detail throughout our conversation that many popular media outlets are not mentioning.  HR 1446 is titled "The Enhanced Background Checks Act" and specifically increases the amount of time that an FFL needs to wait before transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person.  Currently, if an FFL submits a background check and does not receive a response within 3 days, the dealer is permitted to sell the firearm under a "default proceed" transaction.  If this bill passes it will increase that minimum wait time to 10 days, with the hope that the FBI will be able to get more

  • Huntavore - Wild Game Recipes with Jeff Benda

    29/03/2021 Duración: 01h33min

Jeff Benda loves food.  Growing up as a kid on an AirForce Base,  he and his parents enjoyed their time at home in the kitchen.  Whether it was making their own, or hearing about a great new restaurant to try, food was a common event.  Jeff however couldn't realize his second dream of being an outdoors man until becoming an adult.  As a kid, he watched fishing and sport shows Sunday morning before church, read familiar books like My Side of the Mountain.  It wasn't till his friends invited him on a duck hunt back in 2002.  Since then, Jeff has monopolized on his location in North Dakota being able to chase a whole host of animals from the Midwest and Western states. Recipe creation is a task I find to be challenging.  Might be that I’m putting too much thought into relaying to the reader why certain steps are important, or that I am a natural presenter and hack my way through writing.  Jeff offered some insight that a recipe is more of a creative expression and be played and messed with.  Don't li

  • Southern Ground Hunting - Two Turkeys in Three Days | Alabama Public Land Turkey Hunting

    29/03/2021 Duración: 01h20min

We're on cloud nine! Turkey season is here in the great state of Alabama, and Parker has had a productive week. After not hearing any gobbles in his home range for the first couple of hunts, Parker decided to try out a new area that is supposed to be full of gobbling turkeys. In this episode, you'll hear some of the things that he did to capitalize on the birds. He talks about how having a ton of grit is really his most productive method of hunting... if you work hard enough and don't get discouraged, eventually it'll work out. Going from a place with a heavy decline in turkey population, it's sometimes hard to be too aggressive for risk of possibly ruining one of the few opportunities you'll likely get all season. However, going to better areas has taught Parker a lot about what he can get away with in the turkey woods: crawling, scratching, heck even talking with a group of people (you'll find out). These tactics are important in the moment, but possibly will pay off in the futur
