This week on the show we talked through our turkey season preparations for the 2021 spring season.  Jason discussed how in previous years he has used a very mobile hunting strategy with minimal success and that he plans to change his strategy this year with hopes of seeing more birds.  Jacob has never successfully harvested a turkey so he plans to harvest any legal bird using any strategy that is successful.  Jeff has had the most success out of the group with spring turkey, so he plans to use the same strategies he has used in the past with hopes of continued success.  We also discuss a few small changes to our setups and calls that we are hoping will lead to more birds down.    Ohio Huntsman  is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices. We extend the Wild Turkey Podcast series this week to complete a pre-hunt “What’s in your turkey vest Podcast? This podcast reviews the diaphragm calls, friction type calls, locator calls, and the gear we chose to carry.  We tend to be prepared, but still pack light. We want to make sure that any scenario we face that we have the call or sound we can produce in our vest. Jason Thornton hails for Lafayette, Louisiana.  In his own words, the Bayou is a sportsman’s paradise.  He chases just about everything down there; deer, hogs, turkey, small game, fish, and also tends an extensive garden.  His harvest is pride of his, but his passion is presenting that harvest in a pleasing, creative way.  Tossing a bird or rabbit into a crockpot with a can of cream of mushroom or wrapping large cuts in bacon isn’t a bad thing, but how often does that become the only way it's presented.  Jason wants to elevate that dish that brings honor to that animal, but also use all of the animal that nothing goes to waste. One way Jason elevates his dishes is with sauces and homemade condiments.  Now we’ve heard it said “A good steak doesn’t need a sauce”.  There is some truth to that, a properly seasoned, and cooked steak no matter the doneness, will be juicy enough.  However, Jason would live to add a sauce of his foraged mushrooms, or a glaze made from his fruit marinade.  Going beyond just steak
