  • Ohio Huntsman - What About The Ammo?

    26/05/2021 Duración: 01h03min

This week on the show we discussed the current ammo shortage and the various things that go along with it.  We discussed when we think the ammo shortage may finally come to an end and how we think it will change the behaviors of many outdoorsmen.  We discuss how the shortage is expected to take longer to recover due to the fact that many gun owners got blindsided and left without ammo and how we are seeing many more people just buying ammo anytime they see it available.  We also discussed some of the crazy prices we have seen at local gun stores and gun shows across the area.  We also talked about how we feel like the gun shortage has begun to recover due to the fact that there is little to no ammunition available for new gun owners.  Additionally, we discussed how we do not think the reloading supplies in stores will be restocked for a long time due to the fact that most of that inventory is primarily made up of excess supplies from the major ammunition manufacturers.    Ohio Huntsman  is Powered by Simpleca

  • Missouri Woods & Water - From Hunter To Land Manager With Land & Legacy

    25/05/2021 Duración: 01h16min

This week we get to talk with Adam Keith of Land & Legacy about becoming someone who wants to become a land manager.  Adam talks about growing up and the different stages he went through on his way to being someone who is concerned with the land around him.  As he grew he noticed some of the animals he loved hunting started to suffer and he started thinking of what he could do to help, thus starting that transition for him.  We get into the turkey population issue a bit and go through our opinions as to why they might be suffering.  Adam also talks about a few things someone who is new to land management can do to help their property for all types of wildlife.  Product has been pushed over the past few decades to hunters when natural habitat manipulation is far more important.  As Adam says on the show, the worst thing you can do is to not do anything at all at your property.  Thank you to Adam for coming on with us and giving some awesome pointers!              Use Code MWW15 for 15% off your Huntworth Gear

  • Land & Legacy - Summer Habitat To-Do List

    25/05/2021 Duración: 54min

We are bridging the gap between spring and summer during the growing season, so this week's podcast is devoted to all things summer habitat to-do list. Spring annual food plots take a large time away from landowners, but what value do they bring? We discuss in full detail how you should be approaching food plots that are supplementally adding forage to your property.  In addition, we discuss the opportunity to treat non-native invasive species on your property. As we move into the timing when foliar applications of these species can be very effective. Do not forget to treat these plants as they will overtake the understory, edges of openings, and decrease total forage.  It's time to get to work for the wildlife. #ForLoveoftheLand    Land & Legacy is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices. • DIY Sportsman - Late Season Turkey Hunting

    20/05/2021 Duración: 38min

For many people throughout the country, turkey seasons are winding down or have ended. But there are still plenty of opportunities in states like Wisconsin or Minnesota which still have ongoing seasons throughout the month of May. Turkey hunting can require a little shift in strategy this time of year. Birds have been pressured hard, but that same hunting pressure has largely relaxed by now. Hens are spending a lot more time on the nest, and the days are very long. That can give some great opportunity for those willing to put some time in the woods. This episode does a detailed breakdown of my wife Sam's successful public land hunt this past weekend, and I go into some of the methods and strategies that have proven to be successful on late season gobblers. Many of the questions you see from other turkey hunters revolve around "what type of calling". But that's only a very small, and less important in my opinion, piece of the puzzle.    DIY Sportsman is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices. V

  • Southern Ground Hunting - More Hunters Than Gobblers | How To Overcome Turkey Hunting Pressure On Public Land

    19/05/2021 Duración: 01h07min

Parker & Zack Robertson sit down to talk about their hunting in Nebraska on public land where it seems like there are more hunters than turkeys. The guys traveled from Alabama to the midwest with the "gobbler on every corner" mindset, but that just hasn't been the case. With nearly 50 miles logged on the week, these birds have proven to be up to the challenge. Hunting pressure is such a big factor in any public land scenario, and it's really something you don't know how to gauge until you get there. That has been the case in Nebraska. However, the guys have been able to be successful on their trip and overcome the challenge of massive amounts of hunting pressure.    Southern Ground Hunting is powered by Simple Cast. • Ohio Huntsman - National Park Bison Removal

    19/05/2021 Duración: 01h12min

This week on the show we discussed the upcoming bison hunt that is occurring on the north rim of Grand Canyon National Park.  We discussed why they have decided to hold this "hunt" and why it is actually not being classified as a hunt because hunting is federally prohibited inside the boundaries of National Parks.  We also reviewed why they are using this population control method versus relocation of individuals as used in the past.  We also reviewed some of the requirements of individuals that are applying and what is expected if they are selected to participate.  We then wrapped up the episode by discussing some common hunting terms we have seen or heard and what we thought they meant versus what they actually mean according to Jeff's research.  We also covered how these terms or phrases often take on different meanings depending on geographical region.   Ohio Huntsman is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices. • Land & Legacy - Intense Habitat Management on a New Small Acreage Farm

    18/05/2021 Duración: 34min

This is an exciting time in the life of Land & Legacy. Our families have been blessed to both pursue new land ownership opportunities. This new opportunity is not only going to be slightly different though. Matt and his wife purchased a 35-acre farm with a house and barn, this parcel is surrounded by cattle pasture, unmanaged timber, and some hunting pressure.   The goal with this property is to not only make it a homestead for our family but a small farm to put our habitat management skills to the test. We are going to overhaul the habitat and natural resources on the property to make this small acreage as beneficial to the wildlife as possible. There will be intensely managed old-fields, one large 3-acre bedding thicket, shrub plantings, invasive species removal, Forest Stand Improvements, and some quality food plots added with hunter accessibility in mind. This farm is going to showcase just how much quality habitat offered can influence deer movements!  We are excited to share this opportunity with you an

  • Land & Legacy - Wild Turkey Decline We Are the Problem

    18/05/2021 Duración: 01h19min

During this podcast, we discuss the growing trends of wild turkey hunting, harvest information, decline, hunter participation, and the role everyone plays in this equation. In the last few weeks as the state of Missouri has disclosed its 2021 spring turkey hunting results, the general public has been very vocal about the results. The vocalization has stirred up the blame game for the decline in turkeys harvests.  We dive deep into science and harvest information to find the answers for improvement. We don't play the blame game, just stick to the facts. It seems there is outrage with the state's Department of Conservation around the decrease, however, how can they be held accountable for a turkey recruitment problem? We need to be clear on what the problem is, which is, turkeys are not being as successful in making more turkeys each season. Now, there are a ton of factors impacting this, but 97% of the state is privately owned. So, who is gonna make the largest impact, you and me! Not a state agency, this prob
