Literature is scarce regarding the influence of psychological readiness on return to sports after shoulder instability surgery.   In conclusion, the SIRSI was a useful tool for predicting whether patients were psychologically ready to return to sports after glenohumeral stabilization surgery. Patients who returned to sports and those who returned to their preinjury sports level were significantly more psychologically ready than those who did not return. Therefore, we believe that the SIRSI score should be considered along with other criteria that are used to decide whether the patient is ready to return to sports.   Click here to read the article.

Collagen meniscal implant (CMI) is a biologic scaffold that can be used to replace meniscus host tissue after partial meniscectomy. The short-term results of this procedure have already been described; however, little is known about risk factors for failure. In conclusion, CMI for partial meniscal deficiency provided good long-term results, with 87.8% of the implants still in situ at a mean 10.9 years of follow-up. Outerbridge grade 3-4, lateral meniscal implants, and longer time from the meniscectomy to implantation of the CMI were identified as risk factors for clinical and surgical failure.   Click here to read the article.

Despite the growing awareness of the clinical significance of meniscus root tears, there are relatively limited biomechanical and microstructural data available on native meniscus roots that could improve our understanding of why they are injured and how to best treat them. In conclusion, posterior meniscus roots have smaller modulus values and more disorganized collagen alignment at all strain levels when compared with anterior roots. Medial-sided knee injuries can lead to symptomatic valgus laxity or anteromedial rotatory instability and may require surgery, particularly in the setting of cruciate tears and tibial-sided medial collateral ligament (MCL) avulsions. The LaPrade (LP) technique utilizes 2 free grafts to reconstruct the superficial MCL (sMCL) and the posterior oblique ligament (POL). An alternative MCL reconstruction devised by the senior author comprises an anatomic single-bundle reconstruction using a free graft to reconstruct the sMCL with advancement and imbrication of the posteromedial capsule/POL (MCL anatomic reconstruction with capsular imbrication [MARCI] technique). These techniques have not been biomechanically compared with one another. A “Stener-like” lesion of the knee is defined as a distal avulsion of the superficial medial collateral ligament (sMCL) with interposition of the pes anserinus between the ligament and its tibial insertion—a displacement impeding anatomic healing. Because of the scarcity of these injuries, the literature is limited to case reports and small case series. In conclusion, surgical repair of acute Stener-like lesions of the sMCL is associated with a high return to preinjury level of sporting function, excellent functional performance, and a low risk of recurrence at short–term follow-up in elite athletes.   Click here to read the article.

Elite alpine skiing is associated with a particularly high risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, including graft ruptures. Despite a considerable focus on prevention, a reduction in injury rates has not been observed since the 1980s. In conclusion, combined ACLR and LEAP were associated with a significant reduction in the rate of ACL graft rupture in elite alpine ski athletes. Current classification systems are inadequate to describe the spectrum of abnormality. Humeral avulsion glenohumeral ligament (HAGL) lesions are often underreported but have been shown to occur in up to 10% of cases of anterior shoulder instability.
