The hype train for Rift Apart continues as PlayStation hosted their latest State of Play which showcased over 15 minutes of new footage, along with some more reveals including Rivet as the name of the female Lombax. Rift Apart continues to be one of the guys most anticipated games of 2021, and everything that was shown only amplified their excitement. MORTAL KOMBAT!!!! The long awaited reboot is finally here and the guys loved it, for the most part. For the last several months, Xbox has been continuously throwing body blows at PlayStation. Whether it be the continued awesomeness of Game Pass, the purchase of Bethesda, or getting PlayStation's own first party MLB game onto Game Pass on day 1, Xbox has been aggressively going after the clear winner of the last generation. Now it seems that PlayStation is punching themselves as well. A Last Of Us Remake that makes no sense, internal strife between first party studios, killing a potential sequel to Days Gone, and more all add up to form a concerning and confusion Sony that we haven't seen since the early days of the PS3. Concerning reports about the upcoming closure of the PS3, PSP, and Vita stores were officially confirmed by Sony on Monday morning. The PS3 and PSP stores will go offline in July, followed by the Vita store closing in August. Of course these systems are extremely old, but this once again brings up the topic of Sony's near-complete lack of an acceptable solution for backwards compatibility. Nintendo held its first full Direct for the first time in nearly 18 months, days before the 35th anniversary of its second biggest franchise in The Legend of Zelda, and it was.... something. We love Nintendo, they have been a huge part of our lives since 1987, and we want them to be successful. It is because of that love that we have to call them out when it is merited. Many assumed that E3's cancelation last year (along with horrible leaks of personal data from the ESA) that the industry showcase was dead and never to return. For 2021 at least, that isn't true as the ESA is planning a 3 day digital event in June and hopes to have all it's heavy hitters in place for said event. The guys are excited to have another year of their predictions special, but can't shake the feeling that this year will be the last. Zack Snyder also finally released a full trailer for his Justice League, Joel and Ellie have been cast in HBO's The Last Of Us show, Kevin got his 60th and 61st Platinums, Sean got a Peloton, and Six Days in Fallujah has been revived! This was a busy podcast to say the least! As we discuss, we are in the middle of a crazy winter storm in Memphis so we had to record remotely. EA announced this past week something that many thought would never happen, that they were bringing back a College Football game! While the project is still a couple of years away, EA did shine light on how they are navigating the NCAA to gain access to the licenses necessary to bring this to fruition. We also got a release date for the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, along with a list of the enhancements being made to the games, and Sony finally shed some light on just how well the PS5 is doing. The guys have been looking forward to the release of Cyber Shadow ever since it was first announced. A retro side scrolling action game that seems to combine Ninja Gaiden, Contra Hard Corps, and Mega Man?!? LET'S GO! In reality, Cyber Shadow is one of the most difficult games in recent years and how you respond to that difficulty will determine your enjoyment level of the game. Sean has beaten it, and Kevin is nearly there, so they go through all of their conflicting thoughts around the game. Last week, Capcom held their Resident Evil Showcase giving a lot of details about Resident Evil Village, the reveal of the RE: Verse multiplayer component, a PS5-exclusive Maiden demo, and hints at another demo coming in the near future. Reports are also suggesting that we all may be waiting longer than expected for the inevitable RE4 Remake. For the first time in seemingly forever the guys actually had some news to discuss, and said news was pretty big. Not only was Lucasfilm Games announced, but they also announced a new open world story-driven Star Wars game from Ubisoft, and a freaking Indiana Jones game from MachineGames! Both games are seemingly years away, so for now all we can do is speculate on what they will entail, and what systems they will actually release on. 2021 is shaping up to be quite the year for gaming, as the new generation of consoles continue to gain traction with some monster titles coming over the horizon (heh!).
