With many problems around the supply of medicines being highlighted in the news recently including the issues around the supply of HRT, for this week’s check-in with Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow we thought it would be a good time to find out what the potential issues might be around the supply of medicines and what measures are being done to ensure that medicines don’t run out.  Elizabeth began with a quick note regarding the allocation of sunscreens following on from the last checkin before talking about those recent issues around the supply of HRT and the new ‘serious shortage protocol’ rules which have been put in place to ensure that medicines don’t run out.  Elizabeth then gave some reassuring words about what is  being done at the Pharmacy to ensure that there are always a good supply of medicines Available on the Pharmacy shelves Finally Elizabeth talked about a recent published medical article around some potential problems with a specific diabetic medicine.  that was. Cardiff's annual Minority Ethnic Health Fair is a free event designed to encourage healthy futures in communities who may not always get the help they need. With summer here now, hopefully some good weather to come too and with some of us thinking about flying off to the sun for our summer holidays, for this week’s check in with Pharmacist Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow, Connect Radio’s Toby Davey finds out from Elizabeth all about sun and sunscreens. Finally Elizabeth gave some advice on what we should do if we sadly do manage to get sunburnt this summer. Barry Snell chats to Paralympian cyclist Lora Fachie MBE. As well as being a decorated athlete Lora also loves to cook and spend time in the kitchen. She runs her own blog - 'Blindinglygoodfood' as well as hosting Zoom classes, teaching people with sight loss how to cook and prepare tasty meals. With the Queen's Jubilee just around the corner Barry asked Lora what food, we the public, should be getting in to take part in the celebrations. Hear a personal story of survival, overcoming your demons and re-discovering happiness.  Following two strokes, Jay Johnson felt like his life was over, but thanks to support of charities like RNIB Northern Ireland and challenging himself in sport, he has managed to turn his life around. With all the recent news reports around more cases of hepatitis in young children for this week’s check in with Pharmacist Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow, Connect Radio’s Toby Davey finds out from Elizabeth exactly what Hepatitis is and whether it is a disease of the liver too.  Elizabeth began by explaining to Toby what Hepatitis is, the main symptoms and the signs to look out for if you think your child might have Hepatitis or something similar. Elizabeth also talked about other bugs that are going around at the moment such as a very nasty stomach bug and what can be done to reduce catching some of these infections that seem to be around at the moment. The Inner Vision Orchestra are the World'd first blind and partially sighted music ensemble, they tour and perform in prominent venues nationally, and during the pandemic ran a series of virtual concerts. Members of the orchestra also give music workshops.  Their latest performance will take place on May 7th, in Bradford on Avon. With Elizabeth delivering a presentation next week (w/c 25.04.22) at the Scottish Parliament all about Vitamin D for this week’s check in with Pharmacist Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow, Connect Radio’s Toby Davey talks with Elizabeth about how the presentation came about, the potential health benefits around Vitamin D and why having low levels of Vitamin D might affect your health. Elizabeth began by telling Toby about how she was asked to help to deliver a presentation next week at the Scottish Parliament came about along with sharing her own experience of having and dealing with low levels of Vitamin D. Elizabeth also talked about how taking extra Vitamin D can help people if they have low levels, whether there is any possible risk of over dosing on Vitamin D and any connections at all between Covid and vitamin d.
