Micah Podcast: The Heart Of The Matter

People are working hard to download the content of our brains onto computers. But is our consciousness really just like a computer program? Is it limited to the space between our ears?

Seems like we want to live forever - in these bodies. Why? Why not? How does this impulse and desire, not to mention the billions of dollars spent, square with the story of Holy Week?

What does God care about? Will God love smart machines? Are machines really intelligent? And are you as smart as our little droid friend?

We have accepted all sorts of medical human enhancements as good that weren't available just a few years ago. Enhancement 'creeps' along. What's enough enhancement? Where's it leading? Is there such a thing as too much change? Is God in any of it?

People spend more and more time in another world: the virtual world. What does this mean? Is it good or bad? Is it somewhat like people who spend time in the material and the spiritual world?

Technology is everywhere and it's getting to be more a part of our lives every day. Is that good or bad or neither? Do we run technology or does technology run us?

There are lots of cars in the world, especially in China. More every day. And gas is getting more and more expensive. Do we know what we are getting ourselves into? Do we ever? Perhaps this gives God an opening in history.

So lots of people are worried about civilization collapse. Why? Are they right to be concerned? And if so, what really is a good way to respond and prepare?

So this is our strangest subject yet. Please keep an open mind...

Come on, admit it, we all break the law at one time or another... What does this mean for our spiritual life?

Reading is a great thing. Too often we take it for granted. It's actually pretty amazing that so many of us can read, and it's pretty interesting that God's relationship with us is described in terms of a Word. So what's this reading thing all about?

Unconscious habits, conscious habits. What are we doing with our lives?

There are all kinds of really funny and interesting atheist cartoons out there on you tube. Some of them are really quite challenging to our faith. Perhaps they are worth thinking about. Maybe they help us articulate our faith more clearly.

We are really into home improvement. We like to change and beautify our environment. But what do we get ourselves into when we do this? Perhaps this is a great metaphor for the spiritual life.

Earth Day happened recently. What are your reflections on this activity? Good? Bad? Where is God in all of this?

Facebook is the new in thing. So many people, including us, have pages. But what is going on here? What happens when the cables get cut? Are we deepening our connections or are they getting thinner?

Disney is pretty big. It exerts tremendous influence on us, our kids, our lives. So what? That is the question.

So, we haven't done pod-casts in quite awhile. Why not? Can't we get our act together? Are there just rhythms in the world that are so powerful they should be listened to? We're not too sure...

We highly recommend this great movie. How do Christians look to those non-Christians around them? What is the important thing in our faith life, being right or being loving?

This picture is really unbelievable. Fingernails are a big thing. We grow them, cut them, decorate them, nibble on them. Is this a metaphor for our spiritual life, or a metaphor for our distractions?
