There is an ongoing debate between the city of Boston and various community members over the city’s plan to renovate Franklin Park’s White Stadium into a stadium complex that will host a professional women’s soccer team. Wednesday evening, an American Airlines passenger jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter sending both aircraft into the Potomac River below. There were 64 people on board the plane and three soldiers in the Army helicopter, according to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. Officials say no survivors are expected. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has opened an investigation into what they call sanctuary cities or jurisdictions. The Committee sent letters to the mayors of four major U.S. cities, including Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu, calling on the leaders to testify at a Congressional hearing next month as part of the federal investigation into the status of sanctuary cities. A group of Massachusetts lawmakers and MA Attorney General Andrea Campbell have filed legislation aimed at cracking down on student cellphone use at public schools through the state.
