There is a miracle that takes place in the Church where people from different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and generations are united together as a family. With his seemingly obscure list of names in 2 Timothy 4, Paul demonstrates for us the unique kind of family that God is bringing together in the Church.

We get glimpses of our need for friendships. We experience the joys of friendship. But the foundation of friendship is counter-intuitive. It is also the same foundation for every relationship. Understand this one foundational component and set up every friendship and relationship in your life for success.

Loneliness is not good. We know that. We feel that. But the Bible takes it a step further: isolation is dangerous. And we are not just meant to find friends and acquaintances. We are one piece of a larger whole. The challenge is we can fall into one of two extremes: neglecting relationships or worshiping them. This is what God says about finding and maintaining healthy relationships.

This week we all celebrated the beginning of a new decade. Start the 20s right by coming to service to learn from God's word what must at the top of our resolution list. When we think about the idea of authority, we probably think we have a firm handle on what it means. But sometimes we can have misconceptions about how much authority we actually have in our lives. When the angels appeared to the shepherds they announced “peace” to the entire earth. Maybe we have far too small of a view of what Jesus came to accomplish. It was not something just physical. He came to establish a Kingdom that will bring thorough harmony to all components of the universe. The Bible says He reconciled all things. Maybe we need to dream a little bigger of what Jesus can do in our lives and in our city.

What do we want out of the Christmas season? So often we have high expectations. We want the traditions to be how we remembered them. We want the gifts to be a hit. We want parties to go well. It’s like we want a festive escape from reality into a winter wonderland. But what if Christmas offered something more. More than an escape, Christmas brings the One who perfectly rules over all the complexity. Find Him this Christmas.

Each Christmas season we are told to expect the “best time of the year.” But there are a few things that can quickly undermine that. As we kick off our Christmas series, let’s see what this season truly brings. Maybe we will find something more perfect than we could have imagined.

For a season that emphasizes joy, it can often be elusive. How do we find joy? Will the shopping and the gift-giving and the eating and the parties bring genuine, authentic joy? Joy is something all of us long for. Here is the recipe for finding true joy this season.

Before Jesus ascended to the Father, He left his followers with a mission. This mission is the great, overarching purpose for our lives as Jesus followers. It turns out that God doesn’t just want us to have an unsinkable faith, He also wants to use us to clear the way for others to experience an unsinkable faith as well.

All religion is based on this basic question: what do I have to do to get to heaven? Each religion has its nuanced way of providing an answer. For some religions, it is good deeds. For others, it is sacred rituals. Many people who do not consider themselves religious, believe that being a good person will earn a spot in heaven. Which is in itself a type of religion. But what if Jesus taught something so fundamentally different, it cannot be classified as “religion”? He taught that salvation is not based on something we do, but something God did.

Most of the residents of South Florida say they believe in God. But what exactly does that mean, practically? How would that intersect with day to day life? This weekend we are going to take a look at the story of someone who had a vision of standing in the presence of God. That encounter was life-altering. What would an encounter like that do for you?

Have you ever thought about what happened to the iceberg the Titanic hit? The “berg” probably fared better than the boat. Icebergs are sturdy because they famously have so much below the surface. In the same way, when we hit tough spots in life, it is the deep down beliefs that keep us afloat. How solid are your beliefs? This week we are talking about truth itself. The world tells us truth can be found on the inside. But what if the inside is what is so turbulent? Maybe there is something even more sturdy to anchor ourselves to.

One of the most challenging tensions with desiring to be a person that values both faith and logic is the issue of science and the Bible. When difficult times happen, it strains us in many ways. It can be challenging emotionally, medically, financially or relationally. And sometimes all of the above. But it can also be discouraging spiritually. Those seasons can create tension in our relationship with God. Trials push our faith to the limits. Why does God take us into those situations that require such faith? Maybe there is logic behind it....

One of the most common logical challenges presented to Christianity is how can a good, all-powerful God could allow all of this evil to exist. This is a great question. And there are great answers to it. The presence of evil does not disprove the existence of God, but it actually may serve as evidence of God’s existence. But why does God not eradicate evil?
