Everywhere we go, we hear promises: facial cream that promises to make us look younger, a chocolate bar that promises to satisfy our hunger, a financial plan that promises to make us wealthy. Everyone makes promises… some keep them, and some break them. Everything about promises depends on whether you can count on them. If you can, then you have something to build on. If you’ve ever seen bricklayers building a wall for a house renovation or new addition, they need a foundation they can count on to hold up the wall for the life of the house. We’re all bricklayers, building our lives brick by brick. We need to be able to build on something solid and strong, on good promises that are true and last forever. Yet many times we end up building on something that doesn’t hold up the wall.

One thing we’ve all been reminded of in the past couple of years is how uncertain everything seems to be. From regulations, the economy and housing to physical sickness, emotional health and the future itself, it’s hard to actually know what we can actually… know. Something that has gone right along with that is the erosion of trust – in systems, leaders, policies, health strategies, economic forecasts, the job sector, others around us, and even ourselves. We all need to know what we can trust, what we can be sure of, what we can build our lives on. What if we could know for sure? What if you could have confidence in what to believe, what to stand on, what to trust in? And what if who God is, what He has said and what He has done is something you could trust in completely?

OK so you are having a conversation with someone, going back and forth about things you agree on and some things you do not agree on. Then all of a sudden you hear the words, “the reality is…” and you know you are in for a treat. You are about to hear something that is true for sure…because after all, it is reality. And how does this person know what the reality is? Well, they believe it, and maybe they even read it on the internet…so it must be true. The reality is, I say this all the time. I think I know what reality is simply because I believe it, and my opinion must be right. And if you are honest, you do it too. You think that something is reality because you believe it, and that your opinion is right…otherwise you would change it. But what if someone who claims to know truth does things that make them less than truthful? And what if truth is something, we need to discover rather than determine?

This is Our Heart for Our House: to help people identify and find their next steps toward a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. To create opportunities for people to EXPERIENCE God's presence and the body of Christ. To BELONG to something bigger than themselves, because we’re better together, and to CARE for those who are hurt, disenfranchised, discouraged, or have lost their way. We need to do this in community.

The way we got our Bibles is not the way the world got The Bible.

The bible is alive, powerful, and has the power to change lives. Times change, but the word of God hasn’t

How often do you read the bible? Every day, once a week, hardly ever, or never? The responses were all over the place. How would you respond? If you’re someone who would hardly ever or never read the bible, have you ever asked yourself why? Is it because you’re busy and haven’t thought about it much? Or maybe you view it as some old religious book? Or that it wouldn’t be relevant to your life in any way? What if what you’ve believed about the bible, how it came to be, what it says to us, whether it’s true, and whether it actually matters to your life, isn’t what you thought? And what if you discovered that some of the hardest things in life, like disappointment, confusion, fear and even despair are not only all throughout the bible, but so are the tools to overcome them?

As we start another year, here are some good questions for 2022: What do you believe in? What do you hold to? What do you stand for? What do you live by? I’m talking about our beliefs, principles, creeds, doctrine? We all have them, we all hold to them, stand for them and live by them. The question is, do we know for sure that our beliefs are right, that our principles are solid, that our creeds are true, that our doctrine is sound? It really matters, because our entire lives are based on it and the way we live depends on it. And even the way we view God can really affect these things. Do you view God as someone who can do anything, who knows everything about you, who is everywhere all the time, and who loves you no matter what? Or as someone who is just as powerless, confused, limited and self-absorbed as the rest of us?
