First Universalist Church

This month we explore the spiritual practice of radical connection between body and mind, external and internal, subject and object, private and institutional, public and personal. We will endeavor to widen our personality, as individuals and a church, so we might answer our calling to create a greater good, and grow the beloved community by cultivating presence.

Michael Dowd shows how a meaningful, science-based view of big history, human nature, and death can offer a realistically hopeful and inspiring vision of the future and help people live happier, healthier, more on-purpose lives.

In her first sermon as Minister of Program Life, Jen will explore the image of our cupped hands and the many ways that our Universalist heritage of love and hope calls us to use our hands to hold and heal the world.

The poet Rilke writes: "Take your well-disciplined strengths and stretch them between two opposing poles. Because inside human beings is where God learns." Join us this Sunday to explore the ways in which we can use our strengths, as people of faith, to build bridges, to reach across chasms of hurt or misunderstanding. This is how we build the beloved community. This is where God learns.

Some people call this the "Minnesota marriage moment." Unitarian Universalists and a broad group of people of faith began organizing against the anti-marriage amendment the day it was voted to be on the ballot. UUs can make history by taking a stand. Each of us has the potential to make a difference.
