THE WEDDING BANQUET tells the story of Lee (Lily Gladstone), a young woman who desperately wants to have a baby with her more-unsure partner, Angela (Kelly Marie-Tran). As they undergo difficult IVF treatments, they’re supported by their friends (and housemates) Chris and Min (Bowen Yang and Han Gi-chan). Chris and Min have also been together for five years but haven’t gotten married yet. Things become more complicated, however, as Min’s US Visa is about to expire. Together, they hatch a plot. Min will marry Angela and, in return, Min will fund their IVF treatments. But, after Min tells his matriarchal grandmother about his impending wedding, her arrival forces them into an elaborate deception in order to secure Min’s green card and keep both couples together. Directed by Fern Levitt, LUCY: THE STOLEN LIVES OF ELEPHANTS is the first documentary to expose the cruel treatment of elephants in zoos. Using the traumatic story of the Edmonton Zoo’s elephant, Lucy as the driving force behind the narrative, the film exposes zoos as glorified prisons and demands the transport of their elephants to sanctuaries around the world. In this 1on1, we speak to Levitt about the future of zoos and the difference between 'preservation' and 'domination'.
