Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps (re)introduces the world to the Fantastic Four. Led by Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), the team of Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) serve the people of Earth 828 as their protectors against otherworldly villains. However, when the mysterious Silver Surfer (Julie Garner) arrives to herald the arrival of the diabolical world-eater, Galactus, the Four find themselves out of their depth, especially with the arrival of Reed and Sue’s impending child. Banding together, the team must fight to find a way to save the world and, of course, their family. Our review.

Set almost three decades after the release of the rage virus, 28 Years Later imagines a Europe that has been forced to adapt in order to survive their ruthlessly enforced quarantine. Enclosing themselves in isolated communities, one such group of survivors have made a new life for themselves on a small island that’s connected to the mainland only by a single causeway. As his son Spike turns 12, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) believes it’s time for his boy to learn how to hunt the infected and he decides to take him to the interior. However, although their experience goes awry, Spike believes that there’s hope deeper into the forest and he sets out with his mother on a mission to get the help they need.

Set in May of 2020, Eddington takes place in a fictional, rural community in New Mexico where the city’s elevation is higher than its population. Led by the (seemingly) progressive and well-liked Mayor Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal), the township values supporting one another by wearing masks in the early days of COVID-19. Though, not everyone is onboard with mask mandates, especially Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix), the community’s representative of law and order who has an axe to grind with Garcia. Seeing an opportunity to take down his rival, Cross begins to campaign against the mayor in the upcoming election. Our review.

Directed by Didier Charrette, SIMPLE PLAN: THE KIDS IN THE CROWD takes into the simpler times of  @simpleplan   By offering access into their early basement shows in Montreal and months grinding out the club circuit, the documentary shows how the hard work of kids with a dream gradually led them to global stardom. But the road to fame is far from easy. Whether it was trying to get noticed or trying to please audiences of different styles, Crowd shows the battles that they had to face along the way. Directed by Seth and Peter Scriver, ENDLESS COOKIE is a wild animated documentary that lets the two men tell their own stories in their own way. Seth, now 47, says that Pete, 62, is “one of the best storytellers I know.” So he decided to audio-record Pete’s stories and then animate them.  But, when Seth and Pete realized it was impossible to not have the audio recordings interrupted, they decided to embrace the chaos. In this 1on1, the Scrivers speak to us about their unique style of animation and using improvised audio.

Directed by Dean DeBlois, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON returns to screen with the story of Hiccup, a young viking who doesn't fit in his own village. As the son of the king (Gerard Butler), he is expected to exhibit bravery, brutality and, most importantly, kill dragons to protect his village.
