A Greater Sense of God - Part 9: Outwards From the Innermost
14/05/2022 Duración: 15minA Greater Sense of God - Part 9: Outwards From the Innermost On January 28, 1986, 7 Space Shuttle Challenger astronauts exited gravity and entered eternity. President Reagan gave quite a speech that day, paraphrasing the poetry of an Air Force volunteer: they “slipped the surly bonds of earth … and touched the face of God.” To touch the face of God suggests intimacy, as with someone we know well. In the Bible, we often find expressions such as “seeking God’s face” to describe prayer, and occasionally “the softening of his face” which suggests soothing, possibly by touching. One of the most amazing revelations about God in the Bible is that he wants you and me to become intimate with him - and the goal of this book, starting with God’s revelation to the prophet Ezekiel, is quite simply to help that become a reality.

Going the Distance - Part 12: Refocusing Disappointment
31/12/2021 Duración: 15minGoing the Distance - Part 12: Refocusing Disappointment The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a contest with many rounds, not just one. Comparing Christians to athletes, and personalizing it, the Apostle Paul says, “I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:26-27). The picture of a boxer is especially apt, as experience teaches us that we don’t need to go very far in the Christian life before we start taking ‘blows’ or ‘hits.’ In another place, Paul talks about being “struck down” (2 Corinthians 4:9).
