A call to believers to intentionally remember key truths: the sanctity of the Lord's Day, the centrality of the gospel, the personal cost of Christ's sacrifice, and the countless ways God has sustained them through trials. Here too is God's forgetting of sin when we turn to him.

The way of salvation is easy to understand. It is a free gift of God and no one can earn it. Here are reasons why it is foolish to think we can merit it. Here too, is hope for any despairing that they are beyond salvation.

Jacob's prophecy of Judah is poetic and mysterious. Its climax is an apparently obscure reference to the vine, but here is a glimpse of terror and of grace. Every word is important, even the word order in the original serves to emphasise this double sense. A doubled doubling down underscores the emphasis. Incidentally the three hints of violence in the verse are: the dark red sense of the 'choice vine', the 'cut short' word for garment, and the blood of the grape, though other Bible allusions render thus explicit. I erred in recalling the third. Ponder Gethsemane and Calvary afresh.

Hebrews challenges us with privilege and responsibility. Will we use our lives wisely, or as so many believers, squander them? How must we serve God acceptably? What principles govern His will? What are the enormous rewards of His grace?
