Matt Segal was raised in Florida and discovered his passion for rock climbing in the gym. He has been climbing since 1998 and quickly left the man-made holds for those naturally placed. He moved to Boulder, Colorado to grow his passion. He’s traveled the world, from China to Argentina, mostly focusing on establishing the most difficult traditional climbs he can find. Some of his proudest lines include The Iron Monkey (5.14) in Eldorado Canyon, CO, The Orangutan Overhang (5.14-) in Independence Pass, CO and Air China (5.13d R) in Liming, China. Recently he’s also collaborated with both scientists and photographers on National Geographic expeditions where his skills as a climber have proven to be valuable. In 2008, Marvin Owen paddled down the Columbia River from its origin at Columbia Lake in British Columbia all of the way to the mouth of the river at the border of Washington and Oregon. In 2017, he decided that he'd do it all over again. Marvin built his own kayak with the help of a local boat builder and set off to experience this epic journey once again. After achieving her own sobriety, Amie became a substance abuse counselor. She turned her focus to kayaking and shortly into her paddling career, she suffer hit her head and suffered a brain injury during a rapids run. Jane Parnell has been hiking and climbing the Rocky Mountains since the 1970's when she discovered how the mountains could heal her traumatic wounds. After being raped when she was twenty-one and with few people believing her claim, she met a mountaineer who introduced her to mountaineering. They would eventually be married. Jane's new passion helped her cope with the trauma of the rape and other family issues that weighed heavily on her throughout life. By the time she was thirty, she had become the first woman to climb the 100 highest peaks of Colorado. Jane continued her quest for the summit by turning the goal of sumitting the 100 highest peaks into conquering the 200 highest and ultimately setting her sights on the 300 highest and nearly reached that goal. Jane is on the show today to share with us the ways in which adventure sports,  and more specifically mountaineering,  can help us find and maintain some sanity in our crazy world.
