Message from 1 Samuel 18Message by Kyle Goen from the Riverdale CampusIt’s easier to run hard after the heart of God when you have friends who also run hard after the heart of God. Their iron sharpens your iron, and your iron sharpens theirs.

Unchecked emotions cause us to do things we'd normally ever do. Loneliness can make you jump into a bad relationship. Fear can get you to lie. Anger may lead you to divorce. But God says wait, ignore your impulses, don't let your emotions guide your decisions.

Jesus says a lukewarm Christian makes him sick. He doesn't mean the temperature of their passion; hot water and cold water are both good. It's the distance they are from the source that is making them lukewarm and ineffective witnesses.

Seven — Week 6Message by Pat Hood from the Riverdale CampusJesus told the church in Philadelphia, I’m opening a door & I know you have little power...you’re small, don’t have a lot of money/resources...no clout in society but that’s ok because it’s not on you, it’s on me. You can’t save anyone, but I can. You have limits but I don’t. So, just be faithful, trust me, and watch what I will do through you.

The church in Sardis was a zombie church: it looked alive on the outside, but on the inside it was dead.The dead need revival and the way to revival is to repent. Jesus said to wake up, remember the gospel that saved you. Proclaim it in the church, the streets, your homes, your neighbors, to the nations.

How do you as a believer remain loving and tenderhearted to the world but still remain strong in your convictions? If you see sin as a disease like cancer, you know you can hate the sickness separate from the person who is sick. We aren't told to just be tolerant of our enemies but to love them. Christians have a much higher bar to cross when it comes to tolerance. 

There is nothing that makes a church more ineffective than worldliness. A church can have the nicest building, the best programs, but it will all be for nothing if the people of the church live no differently from the culture they’re supposed to be reaching.

Jesus tells us, Don’t fear those who can only kill your flesh because I’ve got your soul. I know what you’re going through and I've got this. 

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first.Revelation 2:4-5

Marriage is an institution where you get to put the King on display to the world through Christlike, grace-filled love and intentionality with your spouse.

What are you setting your sights on? The things of earth that fade away, or the things of God?

You might not be able to explain how God will do what he promises, you just need to have faith that he will.

We can't fix sin on our own. Like David, we have to learn that the only way out of sin is repentance. We will never find a shortcut or a back road away from sin.
