Is Spitting Image's satire too cruel for today?
08/03/2020 Duración: 20minA pilot for a new incarnation of Spitting Image has already been filmed, and its producers are in advanced discussions with US-based networks to bring this very British brand of satire to the wider world. After years of hopes, hints and denials, he wanted to resurrect the programme back as a “public service satire” in response to the state of the political culture, making clear he has lost none of his antiestablishment fire. But are we ready for it? Can today's snowflake, safe space, SJW laden, offence-taking PC culture cope with such hard hitting humour?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.Supporters get updates on new projects and hot takes on the latest news plus Mark and Pete Extra in depth commentary episodes and Mark and Pete vs AI comedy episodes. The UK General Election - what to do next
15/12/2019 Duración: 31minWhat to do, it seems that the Conservatives have a mandate to govern, what should and must they do?The U.K. general election of December 12 delivered a decisive victory for Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party. He steered the party to regain its majority in the House of Commons that was lost in 2017.The Conservatives recorded a net gain of 47 seats, winning 43.6% of the vote, the best share for any party since 1979, whereas Labour suffered a net loss of 59 seats. The so called “Red Wall”, of constituencies in Northern England crumbled and seats across the Midlands also fell to the Conservatives. This now means that with a majority of 80 Boris Johnson can steer his withdrawal treaty through parliament and the U.K. will leave the EU on January 31, 2020. And then onto implementing other policies. There are reports that Boris Johnson is plotting a dramatic overhaul of Whitehall after his landslide election victory, in a drive to demonstrate that the Government “works for the people” - what of the people who i

How do we prevent another London terror attack?
01/12/2019 Duración: 25minOn 29 November 2019, a stabbing attack occurred on the north bank of the River Thames next to London Bridge in Central London, United Kingdom. Five people were stabbed, and two died of their injuries. After being restrained by members of the public, the attacker was shot by City of London Police and died at the scene. Police declared the attack a terrorist incident. Boris Johnson, the current Prime Minister, has said “If you are convicted of a serious terrorist offence, there should be a mandatory minimum sentence of 14 years – and some should never be released.“Further, for all terrorism and extremist offences, the sentence announced by the judge must be the time actually served. These criminals must serve every day of their sentence, with no exceptions." What are the benefits of Nationalization versus Privatization?
23/11/2019 Duración: 33minThe Labour Party and the Conservatives are at odds with each other this election over the benefit of nationalisation verses privatisation. The broad lesson of the great privatisation experiment is that it has worked well when competition has been unleashed, but less well when a government-run business has been replaced by a government-regulated monopoly.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.Supporters get updates on new projects and hot takes on the latest news plus Mark and Pete Extra in depth commentary episodes and Mark and Pete vs AI comedy episodes. Should politicians be legally accountable for their manifesto policies?
17/11/2019 Duración: 20minWhy is it not a crime to break manifesto promises? This seems a simple way of making election manifestos genuinely meaningful documents - and also protecting the democratic process. Some allowance could be made for changing situations once power has been won, but why aren't party leaders individually and criminally responsible for broken guarantees. Jacob Rees-Mogg and the Careless Comment
10/11/2019 Duración: 20minWhy should Jacob Rees-Mogg have to apologise for the remarks he made about the Grenfell fire (The Yorkshire Post, November 6)?Is Rees-Mogg an out of touch smug politician or was it simply that he said that he would have ignored the advice of the Fire Brigade to stay put if he saw the building was on fire. He never implied that those who did as they were told had no common sense. Well maybe it's because sensitive subjects cannot be dealt with on the campaign trail.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.Supporters get updates on new projects and hot takes on the latest news plus Mark and Pete Extra in depth commentary episodes and Mark and Pete vs AI comedy episodes.
