It’s Week 2 of the new NFL season and already half the league seems in the midst of an injury crisis. It’s the NFC West preview and four gangs are battling it out for control of this turf. We’ve got multiple contenders, players moving in-division this offseason, returning heroes hoping to avoid injury and older vets hoping for one last bite at the apple. The 49ers are suffering from the injury bug already in their WR room but will hope with a long-term deal in place for Purdy, CMC returning from injury and Robert Salah back in town to handle their defence they can contend for the Lombardi this year. Will the fall off in their defensive talent hold them back? Will Purdy show himself worthy of his big contract? Will CMCs legs be able to hold up this year? What can we say about the NFC South? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Baker Mayfield, have won this down on it’s luck grouping for the last 4 years straight. Their approach this year could be best summed up as, that worked before, lets try it again. Similar roster construction, gone is the OC Liam Coen, in is John Gizzard, but do they have the personnel and coaching to challenge for more than just a playoff berth? The Falcons are hoping everyone else finds their Pennix as impressive as they do, with him taking over from Kirk Cousins and a bunch of new rookies on the defensive side of the ball (now under DC Jeff Ulbrich) hoping to give them a spark that has been sorely missing, particularly when it comes to pass rushing. The Panthers seemed to find a spark late last season with Bryce Young starting to look like a potential franchise QB, they’ve gotten him a WR1 in Tet McMillan and are hoping to find some more bright points on offence with a slew of new faces. A division full of history, full of lovable teams like the Detroit Lions, full of rivalries that feel real. The Lions are transitioning through a major change in the coordinator positions and the loss of Frank Ragnow at centre, but still have an immensity of talent and a head coach in Dan Campbell that most fans would kill their grandmothers for – can they keep the dream going one more season, and could the Lombardi trophy come closer into view this year? The Bears got their man in Ben Johnson; is he, combined with a total overhaul of the O-line, the answer to the Caleb Williams question? This week we turn our attention to the AFC North, a tough-nosed hard hitting slobber knocker of a division. The Ravens have won the last two years, the Bengals the two years before that. The Steelers haven’t won the division since Big Ben was with the team in 2020 (And the browns have never won it!). Who could take it this year? The Bengals are struggling to sign their first round rookie Shemar Stewart, but have paid both Chase and Higgins, have Burrow, and are working to reach terms with Hendrickson. The defence has a new DC in Al Golden, but not a huge turnover of a sub-par roster so the offence will need to lead out if they are to be contenders this season. Can they avoid the slow start of other years that have often left them chasing their tails in the division race? The offseason previews have finally arrived and we’re kicking off with the AFC East. This division has been the Bill’s for the last 5 years but is there any chance of that changing? They’ve locked up Josh Allen on an updated long-term deal, picked up the customary aged pash rusher and brought in rookies to bolster the defensive backfield. Their eyes are firmly on Superbowl or bust, but have they done enough? The Dolphins are bringing back a broadly similar group of players from recent years, Achane sits atop the running back chart, Hill has apparently found religion and their first round rookie might help solidify the defensive line. Championship weekend is in the books, and we have our Superbowl 59 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, but to get there they both had mountains to climb (even if one felt more like a gentle incline by the end). The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes continued their postseason streak of crushing the Bill’s dreams, as their defence stopped the Josh Allen led Bills in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter to secure their place in the Superbowl and keeping their dreams of a three-peat alive. The Bills fought admirably and looked to almost have the upper hand with three minutes on the clock and 3-point deficit with the ball in hand, but were unable to get the job done. DIVISIONAL REVIEW + CONFERENCE PREVIEW The divisional round is over that means we enter the final four as the Commanders will face off against their division rivals the Eagles for the NFC and the Bills travel to Arrowhead to try and exercise some demons vs the Chiefs. We preview these cracking Conference Championship battles and give our predictions for who will meet in the Super Bowl. In a week of one-sided games, we saw all but one of the lower seeds eliminated in the wildcard. Sam Darold saw his career resurgent season come crashing down around him against a fired up LA Rams defence. WEEK 18 REVIEW + WILDCARD PREVIEW The regular season is over and that means the playoffs are here. We break down the Wildcard matchups and give our predictions of who will take one step closer to the Super Bowl. The end of the season also means the changes for the less successful teams as we break down the big changes at head coach and general manager in New England, Jacksonville and Tennessee.
