On the Southern Ground Hunting podcast we really want to be an example of applying tactics that we have heard from our guests and sharing the outcomes. This season will be no different. We're going to be bi-weekly sharing our experiences in the woods through February, largely based on the things we have talked to our guests about. After a successful podcast last week, we need to complete the comparison podcast to build upon the importance of having your priorities in order for your property.  Last week we discussed a timber-dominated 320-acre property. On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Tristian Mole from South Carolina talks about his recent success on a big southern buck. Tristian explains that he recently picked up a new hunting property that had little to no hunting pressure on it. Once he gained permission, he started the process of hanging treestands and trail cameras, and even started multiple stations on the property which is legal in South Carolina. It take long for this buck to pop up on one of his trail cameras. As soon as Tristian was able, he begin actively hunting this mature buck. In this episode of the DIY Sportsman podcast, Garrett talks about how to navigate the vast amount of changes that occur between the beginning and the end of the month. Changes include food sources, amount of available security cover, hunting pressure, and hormones. Garrett reviews data of daylight mature buck sightings from the 2020 season in locations near doe bedding throughout the month, and how it compares to sightings before mid-month.  Strategy wise, being successful in early October requires a different mindset and skillset, and it can be important to not overpressure good pre-rut areas too early before bucks have started shifting over or showing up in daylight because of impact on the does.
