You never know how or when you'll cross paths with awesome people but when it happens, you can't help but feel lucky. That happened for Pierce last week as he met Jeff Hintz at the BHA Northern Icebreaker Banquet, after raffling off a guest slot on the show to raise money for BHA. Jeff is a lifelong outdoorsman, hunting mentor, and current member of Wisconsin's Conservation Congress. In this episode, Pierce & Jeff talk about Jeff's upbringing in the southeastern corner of the state, how he got to be a pretty darn good shot by shooting rats out on the farm, who Jeff's mentors were and how he's transitioned into serving as a mentor himself, BHA, and the inner workings of the Conservation Congress and how folks like you can make your voices heard. Today’s show opens up with Brad talking about an interesting topic he read about before hopping on the podcast today. The topic is about merchant codes, and how states like California and New York are potentially looking at tracking them for firearm retailers so they can track that you bought a firearm. The problem with this is with retailers like Bass Pro, it would be almost impossible to track whether you bought a firearm or an item like a boat when using merchant codes, so it would be an incredibly hard thing to do. Nate Hicks joined Nate Rozeveld this week on Michigan Wild. Hicks is the owner of Painted Arrow, an outdoor company that has multiple products to offer the self filming bowhunter. The first time Nate Rozeveld saw Painted Arrow was on YouTube. The video was all about a giant Michigan Buck that Hicks targeted and successfully harvested. That year was a pivotal time in Hicks life and totally changed his course along with Painted Arrows. This episode breaks down that story and the lead up to that hunt. Hicks actually spotted this deer as he was searching for property to buy. After seeing the deer it led to him purchasing the property. Hicks was then able to kill the deer October 1st on a morning hunt the following fall. If the term "hard work pays off" was ever to describe an individual, it might just be talking about Bryson Ziegler. Bryson joins the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast this week to talk about his awesome 2023 season which saw two great mature bucks hit the ground. The first buck Bryson took broke all the rules of big buck hunting. He killed the 7.5 year old on a morning hunt in the middle of the "October lull". If that isn't impressive enough, Bryson then took an even larger buck on a small permission property. He didn't just fool this buck once. It's no secret that Wisconsin has a rich history of deer hunting. Images of flannel and orange clad hunters standing around a buck pole with thick northern forest in the background still come to mind when anyone says they're headed to deer camp. Unfortunately, that image is becoming less and less of a reality in recent years as the North woods of Wisconsin simply aren't what they once were for deer hunting. So much, in fact, that the state legislation has recently proposed to prohibit the harvest of does in the Northern Forest Region. This probably isn't the first time you've heard about this since the bill was proposed, but you probably don't have all the information about it either.
