Sadly, it has lost its original meaning of being a ‘calling’ i.e. God has called you to a certain life. And so, our work can be a calling only if it is reimagined as a mission of service to something beyond merely our own interests. Ben continues our series preaching from 1 Kings 17: 17-24. In this passage Elijah is confronted by the death of his host's child. Through Elijah the widow is able to see Yahweh as the God who rescues and brings life where no other gods are able. The widow lived in Zarephath, a region where Baal was worshipped. Despite Baal being the god of fertility, the land was parched because no rain had fallen for a very long time. In the latest in our series in Luke, Tom preaches from Luke 22: 63 - 23:12. In this passage Jesus experiences the suffering and persecution of his trials leading to his death.
