In Ezekiel 31, God's Word declares that prideful Egypt, convinced of its own beauty and strength, will be cast down to Hell. Such is the end of every prideful person who refuses to humbles him or herself before God by repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus for salvation.

Paul begins a new section in Philippians 3. In these first 11 verses he calls the Philippians to rejoice in Christ, beware of false teachers who would lead them away from faith alone in Christ alone as the only way of salvation, and to put no confidence in the flesh, which means in their obedience or law-keeping. Likewise, we must ONLY TRUST ONLY JESUS in order to be saved from the wrath of God on account of our sins.

The selflessness of Jesus was exemplified in Timothy, the Apostle Paul's son in the faith and faithful partner in ministry. He is a good example that if followed will help us to follow the selfless way of Jesus more faithfully.

In this passage, God tells his people in clear terms that he is their only hope. Egypt would be broken and scattered. If we are wise, we will listen to the words of the prophets. We will learn that all other hopes outside of God are false hopes. He is the only sure hope we have.

Paul held up Timothy and Epaphroditus as two men who were following the selfless way of living perfectly demonstrated by Jesus. Incidentally, he also held up himself as an example of selfless living. As we study Paul's example in Philippians 2:19-30 we'll be encouraged to follow Paul as he follows Jesus in selfless living.

In Ezekiel 30 God commanded Ezekiel to cry out in anguish concerning the coming judgment against Egypt - a judgment fast approaching and sweeping in scope. In light of the coming Day of the Lord, we should trust Jesus and "live holy and godly lives... making every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him," (2 Pet. 3:11, 14).

Paul called the Philippians to rejoice because he knew that nothing makes the follower of Jesus happier than to serve others. If we want to be incredibly happy, we must serve one another.

This is part 2 of the sermon addressing Paul's second command to the Philippians in Philippians 2:12-18, "Do all things without grumbling and disputing."

In Philippians 2:12-18, the apostle Paul gave the Philippians three commands that would enable the Philippians to shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and depraved generation. This sermon addresses the second command, "Do all thing without grumbling or disputing." There are, however, two parts to this sermon, so don't miss the second part as well.

What does Jesus's ascension mean for how we live our lives everyday? Philippians 2:12-18 provides three commands. Listen as we explore three characteristics of the first command in this passage, which is to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

God continued to send his word regarding ancient Egypt through his prophet, Ezekiel. In this passage, God confronts and comforts his people by reminding them that, just as remembers and cares for the God-less Babylonians, he will surely remember and care for his people and his prophet. Here we are reminded that God remembers and cares for us as well.

Ten days after ascending to his Father's right hand, Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit upon his people. As we see in Acts 2, he did this so the gospel would be proclaimed, embraced, and spread.

The only way up is down. Because Jesus humbled himself in obedience to his Father by way of his death on the cross, Jesus was not only resurrected by exalted to his Father's right hand. Now, his name is above every name and every knee shall bow to him and every tongue shall confess him as Lord!

They crucified him. That's all the detail the gospel writers provide about the death of Jesus on the cross. Sometimes a things is so horrible that no words can adequately describe it. Such was the cross of Christ. As Paul called the Philippians to humility, Philippians 2:8 provides us an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus, the God-man, died on the cross for us. Will we trust him?

Why does it matter that Jesus is both God and man? Why should we rejoice that Jesus, in very nature God, is also in very nature human? Jesus is man, and because he alone is both God and man, we can be reconciled to God only through faith in him.

Jesus is God and because he is God, we can be saved from sin and made righteous in the sight of God. Why is it important to recognize Jesus as very God of very God? The Apostle Paul answered that question in Philippians 2:6-8 as he highlighted the humility of Jesus by first pointing to his deity before pointing to his humanity and ultimately his sacrifice on the cross. Only Jesus, the God-man, could bring about peace between God and man.

If we want to get back to the garden, we must go through Jesus. As we read through John 18-20 we notice repeated references to "the garden." Our problem with God started in a garden, was resolved by Jesus's resurrection in a garden, and will one day be realized in the garden of New Jerusalem. The Bible teaches that the way to peace with God now and paradise in eternity to come is through faith in Jesus Christ.

In 1 Corinthians 7:1-5 Paul highlighted a great weapon in the battle against sexual immorality - and that weapon is marital intimacy. As he wrote in 1 Corinthians 7:9, if we cannot exercise self-control, we should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
