Come and celebrate Accessibility Sunday! On this special day, we remember that sometimes people can feel left out because of stairs, or hard to read words, or not being able to hear, or because people don’t understand their needs. Sometimes we can’t see what someone needs but our calling as a church is to be like Jesus, making sure everyone is included, and that church is a place where no one feels left out. We’ll be hearing from three of our members about what accessibility means to them. We will also be celebrating our recent designation by the United Church of Christ as a congregation that is Accessible to All (A2A). A2A is the terminology used within the UCC to refer to congregations that have completed the Accessible to All process and thereby made the commitment to be physically and attitudinally welcoming of people with disabilities. The remembrance of All Saints’ ushers in a new season as colorful autumn leaves fall to the ground, crunching beneath our feet. In this transitional season, as summer turns to fall and then to winter, we are reminded of the seasons of our lives and God’s presence with us in them all. This Sunday is All Saints Day. “Our sainthood is a beautiful dignity given to us by our God, that we are set apart by grace for good works.” (Eph. 2:10). On this special Sunday, we remember that we are all called to be saints. As we toll the bell in honor of those from our congregation who have gone before us, we give thanks for their lives and witness. This week concludes a two-week series on reconciliation. We’ll read more of the story with Jacob and Esau, two brothers who came into this world fighting and competing with one another and whose birth story set the tone for the rest of their lives. These two were always at odds. In Part 1, we explored how humility is a necessary precursor to reconciliation. We marveled at how Jacob wrestles with God and emerges with a limp and a new name. We asked ourselves if we need to wrestle with God, and if there are any “names” we need to let go of, allowing God to transform us into someone new. This week we’ll take an honest look at the encounter between Jacob and his brother to see what their reconciliation was like… and if it has anything to do with ours.
