This is one we wanted to do in the Summer but are schedules did not allow. So we now bring this to you to coincide with the recent UK Blu-Ray/DVD release. We bring you Iron Man 3. This was an interesting one, this has left the comic book fans torn around the world. Some people have truly hated where the superhero franchise has gone, and some people love it. Here at Back To The Podcast, we have one die hard fan of the comic book world and one compete novice, so we covered both sides to the argument when discussing some of the themes. We put this film under the microscope and asked why this has split the world so much. Its certainly a new style for the Iron Man franchise with Shane Black in the directors chair. Safe to say that we finally found a film this year that exceeded its expectation after a Summer of several miss hits. In this episode we look at Ron Howards newest film, "Rush". A film not so much about motor racing but about the real life rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, centered around their rise to victory in the mid 70s and focusing on a horrific crash that left Lauder badly scarred, as well as emotionally traumatised to get behind the wheel again. It was obvious from the get go, that Howard had picked a hell of a story to tell and because of his fantastic attention to detail and epic film making it made for one of the most exciting films we had seen. In this weeks episode we bring you our review on Matt Damon's newest Sci-Fi action thriller "Elysium". Directed by Neill Blomkamp, the man who bought us District 9 in 2009, the concept and the clear vision of this film was clear and probably one of our favourite things. A tale between rich and poor, Elysium holds a very epic look of the future. We both have a good discussion about this and really enjoy getting our teeth into this film. To coincide with the Blu-Ray release of the recent remake of Red Dawn, we decided to do one of our beloved 'VS' podcasts where we compare old with new. Starting with the 1984 original version of this film, we both had quite different opinions on this one. We did notice the amazing cast of young Hollywood heart-throbs who all went on to become household names and we talk about why this film was so poignant for its day. We then go on to look at the recent 2012 release starring Chris Hemsworth. We compare the differences and how they've dressed it up to suit modern day cinema, but mainly discuss why we think this film was such a flop at the box office. And this week, we have somehting completely different. In this episode we review The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo. We focus on the original swedish version of the film from 2009. It is clear from the get go that we're both total fans of this film and everything it has to offer. Being a 3 hour extended edition we had to be quite selective with what we talked about but lead actors Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist came up quite a lot for their absolutely stunning performances as well as the amazing writing and plot lines. If you haven't seen this, then firstly, spoilers ALERT, and secondly, I urge you all to go and check this film out. Be open minded and try something a little different if you haven't already. Welcome back all, today we bring you the review on the third and final part in the blood and ice cream triolgy, The World's End. Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and directed by Edgar Wright, we know we are in safe hands with these three. Being the follow up to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, we had some expectations for this film, but it was nice to see that they broke a few rules in this newest one. They tackled some more serious themes like alcholism and failing friendships whilst keeping it under the umbrella of a pub crawl. Oooh, there are also robots that try to kill you as well. He has returned, Arnie is back in his latest feature where he plays an aging sheriff in "The Last Stand". A film that had little budget, short filming schedule and came out in January, but to be honest, we both enjoyed this films simplictiy and fun along the way. Its good to see Arnold return back to a feature film for the first time in ovder 10 years, and its equally as good to see him doing what he does best. We talked for quite a bit about the way this film has been made, its minimalistic plot and supporting cast. And to top it, theirs a great song by Jonny Lang at the end of the movie to enjoy also. We've got something a bit different for you today. We decided to look into something very different from our usual and have a look at Guillermo Del Toro's fantastic "Pan's Labyrinth". This is a massively interesting film and genre and we both agree that is not something that gets explored enough in modern cinema. Enough said, and please enjoy! Today we bring you the latest Zombie epic, World War Z. Starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Forster, this Summer blockbuster is quite the popcorn flick, and maybe for the first time in Back To The Podcast history, our opinions are completely split. We talk about why this film does deserve your money but how it could've also pushed the boat out a little more, then we get stuck into the amazing design of the film along with the way it was shot and edited. After a slightly arduous time getting to our seats, we took to the cinema to see the latest imagining of the Superman franchise. We found there were highs and lows to the film, some things we questioned from a B2TheP angle, but overall it's aa interesting take on the great man with the red cape, with some fantastic supporting actors. In todays episode, we tackle the mighty Django Unchained bought to us by the visionary director, Quentin Tarantino. Like with a lot Tarantino's films, this one is a epic 3 hour journey with lots to talk about so we get stuck straight in with talking about the appropriate casting choices and the way this film has been put together. Its only a matter of days before we see the release of the brand new Star Trek sequal "Star Trek Into Darkness" here in the UK. So to recap and to get ourselves into the Star Trek spirit, we have decided to go back to probably the most famous film in the franchise, the second in the series of films, The Wrath Of Khan. For many, and for me this is probably still the best silver screen edition of the hit 60's TV show, and the fact that the movie franchise has been going for over 30 years now is a testament to how great this film was (and still is). So after a rewatch and some note taking we dive right back into this film from 1982. Specifically we discuss why it's a great revenge tale, the casting and portrayal of our favourite Trek characters against the newest additions to the film such as Khan and Saavik. The very recent release of Oblivion is under scrutiny by the Back To The Podcast team today. Having come straight from the cinema into the studio to talk about this film. Starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman and directed by Joseph Kosinski, this bought a first for our podcast where Byron and I were both a bot confused by this film. We go into details why in the podcast, but we talk about which areas we enjoyed, and which areas we didn't and also other topics such as set design, characterisation, score, effects and plot come into subject too. Welcome back to our little chat about films. This week we look at the 2012 Action film "Dredd" starring Karl Urban and directed by Pete Travis. I think its safe to say that we were both surprised by this film (you'll have to listen to find out why). But we touch on a lot of subjects including the fact that its the first 18 rated film to be released in a while, its surprising lack of CGI, its casting choices and its very interesting and innovative cinematography. Welcome to episode 15, the episode in which we take on the mighty "Argo". Directed by and starring Ben Affleck and winner of the Best Motion Picture award at the 2013 Oscars. We wanted to see if this film truly lived up to the hype. Obviously, with this being based on the true events from 1980 their is a lot of oppurtunity to chat about the differences between the actual events and what has been added to the film. But really the thing that we were both fascinated by and really wanted to get our teeth into was admiring Afflecks attention to detail when researching for this film and the tremendous lengths the cast and crew went to to keep it as authentic as possible. On top of that we are spoilt with a first class ensemble cast supporting Affleck in the lead role including John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, Tate Donovan and many more to get us interested. After a few weeks break from the podcast due to work commitments we are back "with a vengeance", and we have decided to use the current release of "A Good Day To Die Hard" (the fifth in the Die Hard franchise) as a great chance to review all five Die Hard films including the most recent release. For a franchise that has now spanned over 25 years their is obviously a lot to cram into one podcast so we try and mention as much as we can. Happy new year listeners. Well we kick straight into 2013 with the breathaking Les Misérables. What can I say? This was surely a breathtaking piece of cinema that will be remembered for decades and talked about for the next coming months. What a great way to start the new year. This epic 3 hour musical, set with the French Revolution as its back drop follows the life of Jean ValJean played by Hugh Jackman and the people he encounters throughout his long life. With no dialogue the film is crammed full of spectular music which in this musical film (unlike all others), all the actors sang LIVE. So after sitting through the film, we got straight in front of the mics with the film fresh in our memory to record this podcast. We talk about the incredible look of the film as well as the stunning performances by the cast among many other things. Enjoy.
