  • 239 | Relationships, love, & ritual cookies with Kathryn Budig & Kate Fagan

    17/10/2018 Duración: 01h20min

I've been following one today's two guests,  yoga superstar Kathryn Budig since I first started doing yoga in high school. She was my yoga idol. Over the years I've read her recipes, bought her books, and watched her talks. Today's other guest and Kathryn's now wife, sports journalist and author, Kate Fagan came into my life more recently when my friend Rose introduced me to their podcast Free Cookies a few years ago. Instantly, I fell in love with their dynamic, the subject matter they covered, their humor, and eventually their free relationship advice or as they call it, cookies. My love of them as a couple led me to get to know & love Kate and her work individually as well, in this episode we talk about the important book she wrote last year, What Made Maddy Run and her own impressive career as a sports journalist. I loved speaking with these two and could have talked to them for hours. We recorded this conversation just a couple days before their wedding, which is why it's a bit shorter than other epi

  • 235 | song writing, creativity, breakups, etc. with actor & singer Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead, Spring Awakening, Masters of Sex)

    05/09/2018 Duración: 01h28min

Unfortunately I didn't watch The Walking Dead and wasn't familiar with today's guest's music career before her team reached out about this interview--I'm now a fan. She was such a delightful, down-to-earth person with so much self-awareness creative spark. We talked about her experience moving away from her small town in the midwest to pursue her dream of acting and singing. We got into the on again, off again relationship that inspired her newest album Oh, Jonathan that just came out this month. Beyond her story and career we talked about her experience with therapy, body image, family, romantic relationships and breakups as well as her song writing and creative process. She gives some of the best creativity advice I've ever gotten on the podcast. She talks about the importance of boredom in her creativity and how her focus now is on being present and grateful for exactly where she is.   Notes from the Show:-Emily Kinney on The Web | Instagram | Twitter | Itunes-Emily's new album "Oh Jonathan"-Hangawi Restau

Beyond Parsley Health, Dr. Robin is a down-to-earth delight, she's a stylish busy mom, and in this episode she not only gives out some of her best wellness advice she also shares what she's learned about entrepreneurship, motherhood, and romantic relationships. • 233 | Balancing Full-time jobs with creative projects, Culture & Identity, Natural Hair, Millennial's strengths & weakness, Instagram, body image + way more with Cat Lantigua

    22/08/2018 Duración: 01h34min

I met Cat at The Wing recently and found out we have a lot in common, she also hosts a podcast, wears many hats, and we moved to New York the same month. After I had her over to my apartment a few weeks ago to record this episode, I realized we related to each other in even more ways than I expected. Cat is one of the most creative, driven, and motivated millennials I've ever met and more importantly she's warm, sweet, kind, and a delight to chat with. We talked about embracing natural hair, her Afro-Latina culture and identity including a new project she's starting related to it, and our millennial generation's best and worst tendencies. We got into her great tips for finding balance between creating and consuming social media, how to find time to for personal creative projects with a full time job and still maintaining relationships, self-care, and a life along side all the busy that brings. • 230 | Loneliness, Manifesting, Body Image, Law-of- Attraction, and Abundance with Jess Lively

    01/08/2018 Duración: 01h54min

I’ve known Jess Lively for years, we both grew up in Michigan, and our paths overlapped there a few years ago. When we were both living there in 2016 we went to go see an Elizabeth Gilbert lecture about her book Big Magic and after over tacos we chatted for hours. Since then Jess has traveled all over the world in her own very Eat Pray Love-esque adventure and her life as changed so much. On that day we were both in an interesting places and I somehow shared with her off hand about Abraham Hicks over lunch, Jess ended up immersing herself in their work and implementing their concepts, along with many other teachers around the concept of law of attraction, manifestation, neuroscience, consciousness, and much more. She has  a unique  skill to distill heady esoteric content into practical terms. Most recently she's taken all of her work and created C-School, a live school in Australia where she now lives but is launching online this week. In this episode we talked about Death, loneliness, fear of not having enou

  • 229| Purpose, Emotional Trauma, Self-Care vs Narcissism, Spiritual Bypass with Mastin Kipp

    25/07/2018 Duración: 01h23min

I met Mastin Kipp in 2014 at his book signing in Detroit. He told me then to stop consuming his work and the work of other self-help personalities and start focusing on my own creative work. Since then, I've done just that. I've spent less time developing myself and more time being myself as I am, or at least trying to. It was great to reconnect with Mastin and talk about the new direction of his work which is now mainly is focused on helping people go deeper into their emotional trauma and figuring out their purpose when they feel lost. We also talked in this episode about my compulsion of  using spirituality and personal growth as "spiritual entertainment" without actually implementing it, we get into comparison, and the thin line between self care and self indulgence, plus he gives some of the best relationship advice I’ve ever received. • 228 | Hospitality, Cancer, Bodies, the Restaurant Industry, & Healing with Laura Wagstaff

    18/07/2018 Duración: 02h10min

I was unsure what to expect when I met Laura, I was connected to her by pervious podcast guest Camilla Ruth Marcus. I knew she was lovely via email, Camilla spoke highly of her, and that she had a thriving career in the NYC hospitality industry but that was about it. Days before our interview she sent me a keynote she'd given a few months prior. I read the 12 pages on a long train train and found myself fully weeping by the time I arrived at my stop.  When I spoke to her in her cozy West Village apartment a few days later it was clear immediately she'd worked in hospitality her entire career. She is a host through and through, I felt so cozy in her space chatting with her about our fascinating story for hours. I loved learning about the hospitality industry, how she navigated a having rare cancer in the prime of her career, her experience with the medical industry, and how she used her cancer as a learning opportunity to discovering food as medicine, shifting her perspective on death, intuition, and listening

  • 227 | Dr. Frank Lipman on information overload, technology addiction, the importance of meaning for health, and more

    11/07/2018 Duración: 01h03min

I've been following Dr. Lipman for years--I've listened to countless interviews with him and read most articles he's written. In the days where I was overly addicted to wellness I'd scour the internet for the latests health information for hours falling down wormholes on what foods to avoid and super-foods to splurge on. Ironically, when I met Dr. Lipman in his office for this interview we didn't focus our time talking about what foods to avoid but rather we talked about how the healthiest thing we can do for ourselves doesn't have to do with food at all. With over 30 years experience as a medical doctor, he's discovered that when people have meaning in their lives they're often healthier. In this conversation, we talked about his fascinating life of moving from South Africa to the Bronx in the 80s to becoming a a prolific celebrity doctor and author. We also talked about how wellness movement impacts different generations differently and where he sees the future of wellness. Notes from the Show:-Dr. Frank Li

It's been a very long while (8 months) since I've caught up with you solo on the podcast. I thought this week I'd fill you in on some updates like how the podcast will be on a 3 week break, what you can expect next season and beyond from me, and what I've been loving lately. In this episode I not only share what I've been listening to, reading, watching, eating, and products I've been using--but I also got to reflect on what has been working in my life (long road-trips with my boyfriend) and what really has not been (making decisions). It was nice recording this because it gave me the opportunity to thinking through to what I've been loving and grateful for this season, hopefully you also enjoy listening to it and it inspires you in some way. • 223 | Dana Cowin on Ugly Food, Evolution of Food Culture, Career Transitions, Power of Story, Female Friendships, and more!

    30/05/2018 Duración: 02h03min

There are few people I love following on social media as much today's guest. Dana Cowin's enthusiasm for food, career, and life as a whole are a delight.  As editor in chief of Food & Wine Magazine for 21 years, a judge on Top Chef, a cookbook author, the host of the podcast Speaking Broadly, a chief creative officer at Dig Inn, just to name a few--on paper she's clearly extremely accomplished. In person however, she far exceeded her impressive resume she was present, welcoming, inspirational, wise, and warm when I visited her Manhattan apartment to record. Dana made us tea, gushed about her best friend Cheryl, and made sure I had a cozy pillow to sit on before diving into the interview. She was not only easy to talk to but allowed the conversation to organically meander wherever I  led us. We chatted about female friendship, the evolution of food culture and her role in that, food culture and trends now, what a day in the life of a editor in chief is actually like, career transitions (Dana was EIC for 21

  • 222 | Trevor Hall on Saturn Returns, Relationships as Mirrors, Surrender, Music + more!

    22/05/2018 Duración: 01h37min

I started listening to Trevor Hall back in 2009 when my yoga studio played him in a heavy rotation. His music soon made its way onto my own playlists when I started teaching yoga myself. After speaking with him this week on the podcast I learned that his career in the music industry had a tumultuous start which including getting dropped from his label, living in a monastery, and eventually making a hit album. Beyond his music he's one of the most wise, peaceful, and dynamic people I've met.  We talked about music as a tool, meditation, surrender, learning vs. applying practices, saturn returns,  using astrology for self-awareness, traveling, staying grounded, relationships as mirrors, culture, connection, indecisiveness, and more. I loved meeting Trevor as much as I loved listening to Lime Tree in yoga class in 2009 (which was a lot).  Notes from the Show:-Trevor Hall on The Web | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | Youtube | Spotify | Itunes- Podcast we talked about: Ram Dass podcast.
