Chuck McConnell’s story turns the old joke about searching for lost keys under a streetlight - “because the light’s better there” - on its head. In his search for a lost sense of self, the “light” of a distant location helped him find what he was looking for. Chuck McConnell settled in Portland in 2010, after Peace Corps service and 40+ years of work in, and around, public broadcasting. Here, he mediates for Multnomah County Small Claims Court and the Oregon Foreclosure Avoidance Mediation Program, and struggles to learn Bluegrass fiddle.
