Panmela Castro-Anarkia is a 2010 Global Leadership Awards Honoree. As a multi-media artist from Brazil she carried out a campaign using street art to educate disadvantaged women about the recently passed Maria da Penha Law on Domestic and Family Violence against Women, a law named after a woman who was so severely beaten by her husband that she was paralyzed for life. Panmela and Vital Voices President & CEO Alyse Nelson sat down during a #VV100 Convening in Mexico for women leaders in Vital Voices' Global Leadership Network, where Panmela opened up about her experiences with domestic violence, and what we need to do to protect survivors.
