Here was Abraham about to sacrifice his son, a child of promise that represented all of his life. Instead of being in a frenzy and fretting, he laid out the wood carefully, put out the stones carefully. There was none of that upset of character, that churning of the Spirit when sin or hardship affects us. We all know that feeling…there was none of that in Abraham. There was a quietness and an assurance, a calmness, that lay hold of his heart. Here was the son of Promise, he bound his son carefully, he picked him up and put him on the alter. Then he pulled forth a knife. When his son had asked him, “Where’s the sacrifice?”, Abraham’s reply was “ God will provide a sacrifice, my son”. The presence of God had been so strong in delivering him time after time that Abraham, by faith, knew God would provide.
